This sculpt was one of Kevin White's winner's in FU-UK's 'Female miniatures... that women would buy' contest. And I consider it a deserved win, since I've picked up two copies of this and his Miranda, one each in the FU-UK winners pack, and another each singly. Kevin has done a wonderful job here of a curvy, fleshy woman that's both idealized and accurate. There's also a sense of insouciance to the pose that I really like.
I painted this figure over two days (virtually a speed record for me) to enter into the Hasslefree painting contest at Fozzbozz Trading Company. Head over and check out fatgoblin's winning entry, it's very nice! I think this is the most fun I ever had painting. I painted purely to suit myself and my husband, who really likes this figure too. Our favourite colour is green, and he has a fondness for redheads. I'm not sure if I should have gone with flowers or something else on the towel, but I wanted to keep the woman the curviest thing in the scene. :-> Any comments you might have are very welcome - I've got another of these to paint yet!

generulpoleaxe 20-Sep-06 #196057 | | Rating: 9 superb skin tones, simple yet very fitting base as well. it finishes the model beautifully. the hair is good, but not as good as your more recent submissions. (always good to see people improving ) |

rex lyver 29-Mar-06 #173044 | | Rating: 10 Perfect - the piece works on all levels. The painting and over-all composition of the piece is excellent. The skin tone immediately grabs the viewers attention, but small details, like the coordination between suit, hat and towel are really well thought out. I like how you've integrated the figure with the base - it actually looks like she's in sand rather than floating on top of it. Added to my list of favorites. |
Wren 20-Mar-06 #171945 | | Rating: - Thanks for the comments everyone! johnboyjjb - I went with a less tanned skin tone because I figured fair skinned redheads usually burn rather than tan, so they'd be likely to use sunscreen and not get super tan. :-> |
Bobinator 20-Mar-06 #171916 | | Rating: 9 Ding Dong! This is excellent stuff, I like the way you have ever so gently highlighted her volumptous figure, makes her more appealling to the eye, an absolutely stunning piece of paintmanship, I think her expression captures a look of slight annoyance, probably all the blokes hollering rude suggestions. nice. |
airhead 20-Mar-06 #171892 | | Rating: 10 Wren, I saw you changed your avatar and had to come find the rest of the mini to vote on. wet/dry sand boundry, beachtowel, all very nice.

johnboyjjb 20-Mar-06 #171884 | | Rating: 9 She must not get try that suit out very often. Not to say she is pasty, but, most stereotypical people on the beach would be more tan. |
supervike 19-Mar-06 #171717 | | Rating: 9 That is quite a figure (and I mean that in two ways...LOL) Fantastic skin tones. I love your muted style. | |
