This is my second entry for this years Chick Challenge III.
On this mini I tried a more complex color transition than I had ever don before. To paint the robe and banners I started with some orange as a base and then worked my way down to dark red and up to almost pure white with several steps in between. I tried do create the impression of burning flames on the banners but failed somewhat IMO. I also wanted to add some sort of symbol to the banners but after several attempts to find a good looking one I decided to leave the banners without any further decoration.
The most parts of the armor of the priestess were painted with gun metal, highlighted with silver and then shaded with I-Kore's metal wash, which gives a nice, brown sheen to the metal (not very visible on the pics). For some more variantion on the armor I painted parts of it (and the headpiece of the staff) with copper, partially highlighted with gold. This fit's very well with the 'burning flame' theme of the robe and banners IMO. The staff itself was based in some dark ochre and then got wood grain painted on with some dark brown.
The base is one of Reapers hex bases with stone texture around. I placed the mini on the base and then filled the base with some wood repair putty. I used a toothpick to sculpt some irregular floor plates into the putty. The base was then painted using Laszlo Jakusovszky's marble technique.

Kreoli 08-Dec-04 #113586 | | Rating: 7 Quiet nice paintjob but the colors in the armour are poorly chosen and do not fit well with the cloth IMHO. |
eparchos 02-Jul-03 #43415 | | Rating: 9 Brilliant metallics, love the base. The eyes are a bit too big for my tastes, but overall a fantastic job. Love to see metallics done well, thank you |
Pellimore 02-Jun-03 #40250 | | Rating: 9 Wonderful mini, the blending is amazing and the colors all seem to fit perfectly. The only thing that seemed to stick out was the white at the bottom of the banners. I know you were trying for the fire effect, but with all that blending the solid transition to white just looks off. If you blended that in, it would definately top of your score. Have fun! |
