This is the first Privateer Press miniature I've ever painted and I was aiming for certain goals from the outset: I wanted to paint it with realistic looking bone, ceramic-like armor plating, realistic rust and general weathering, and a semi-decorative base with murky swamp water transitioning into wet earth and patches of moss.
Essentially this guy represents a test figure of sorts on a number of fronts: Since getting back into painting I have generally been using GW Bleached Bone working up to white highlights - I tried a few other colors in the mix this time around; The rust was something I did on a whim, essentially making my own recipe for rust which I washed onto the little nipper. Lastly, this is the first time I've ever tried using water on a base, and barring an initial period where the liquid portion looked kinda "flat," I'm fairly happy with the end result. (Oh, and this is a first for me using scenic "grass" as well.)

My only suggestion would be to darken up the bone areas and try to give them an almost "mossy" look. Doing that would also make the glowing green areas seem more vibrant once the only opposing lighter color is removed.
Great work! |

Tinweasel 15-May-06 #178531 | | Rating: - @ RedSevenBlue - not sure what you mean by the "black" exactly. The cowl, trim, hips, etc. are all painted in a dark iron metallic color with highlights. The water is a brackish grreny-brown with GW Snakebite Leather highlights washed over with a thin coat of gloss.
Thanks for the comments so far, folks! |
RedSevenBlue 14-May-06 #178450 | | Rating: 8 awesome, I like it so far, its just the black looks too shiny and it kills it sorta. |
