I've heard from one person that these placed 4th (he spoke to one of the staffers as it was being put back into the cabinet). From another person who spoke to one of the judges, it was fighting with one other piece for a trophy position, which would put it in the final 5. I opted for the lower result in the image to hopefully prevent cries of 'how do you know it came 4th?'.

Overall, bloody pleased with the distance it went. I went to my first GD expecting only first cut, and came away with a squad that came within inches of placing.

All told, it took about 150 hours from the start of the conversion process, until the base was finished. I had a few breakages on the plane on the way over, but they've been fixed up now. I don't think they affected my final position in the competition.

Any and all comments would be appreciated.

Now to get thinking about next year

Man those are the best assault termis I've ever seen. Really really nice minis! Did you sculpt the shields by yourself or are they from Forge World?

I think these guys are beautiful - the black is very crisply painted with nice and tidy highlights that aren't overdone. The attention to detail in both assembly and painting is wonderful, especially the unique Black Templar crosses placed over the helms and across the armor. I think my favorite effect has to be the purple of the power weapons - definitely unique. The only place I'd say these guys are lacking would be the basing - so far as fitting into the diorama it's perfect, but so far as taking advantage of the texture of the rock and even possible slight color variations, I think they could've been a little better.

I think the painting alone should have gotten you placed. The bases do need some work but the painting is amazing!

The minis are just awesome. But I think the bases cost you a place in the finals. With another base it's definitely worth a 10.

Well done! I love your use of the limited palette and the subtle way you have added interest to the power weapons. A little unsure about the slate base - especially the size of it. I think the models would be presented better on a smaller base. Great work!
