A long, long, REALLY long time ago, when i was a lad, I read a comic named 2000AD…
Not my own, no! A friend of mine, who knew a guy
whose elder brother got to Britain from time to time and brought some of these back with him
and we literally were stunned; especially a series named ABC Warriors blew me away!
Years and years later, the internet was invented (no kidding, I am that old)
and I had the chance to lay my hands on some goodies from my nostalgic past,
in this case a really killer colour graphic novel named “ABC WARRIORS: Khronicles of Khaos & Hellbringer” both illustrated by Kevin Walker and these were even better than my memorised, nostalgic images of the warriors…
When some years later Excalibur Miniatures published the HATE-Bot (bearing an uncanny resemblance to Hammerstein, the ABC Warriors´ leader of sorts) I waited for them to produce
a Joe Pineapples Lookalike , but it was not to be…
So I had to do it myself eventually;
taking the torso and head of aforesaid Bot, converting it heavily, I had no choice as to sculpt the rest of the mini myself to the extent that even the original parts were almost completely
reworked and covered (adding leatherjacket, sunglasses etc.).
the diorama/surroundings are a tip to the hat to the mini´s roots, namely being a comic book hero (again, of sorts).
The whole thing was not an easy one to photograph, being a literal 3D piece, but I hope the presentation gets across…
Ah, and please, don´t take this one too seriously, the book is not about realism as well…
Anyone looking for a really cool comic, the ABC Warriors from Kev Walker is a must in my eyes. Ignore this at your own peril!

Hey there! I think you have really captured the feel of the ABC Warriors strip! I am a big fan of Kev Walker and the ABC Warriors! I saw this and said - yes. I would now like to gloat and say I have the first EVER signed copy of Hellbringer. Thank you.. |
