I painted this in mid-September 2006 for the first round of the Iron Painter Season 2 painting contest over at Wyrd Games. In Iron Painter, you are paired against a single opponent each round, and each round has a 'theme' painting effect that must be used. The theme for this round was weathering. I have spent a lot of time working on painting clean and smooth, so this was a very interesting challenge for me, and I had a lot of fun with it.
I did a work in progress log that details my experiments with different weathering techniques. The cannon is based on some pictures of real world cannons I found on the Web. I used real metallics as several of the tutorials I was working from used them, and also to get more practice with them. This was my first attempt at OSL that made it into a completed mini.
Oh, and I know the cannon is on backwards, skeletons have no brains. ;->
