Painted as a commission piece, this Space Marine Librarian was done to the client's custom Space Marine Chapter color scheme of red, black, and gunmetal - I settled on the semi-quartered pattern for the blue areas to represent his status as a Librarian, and everything else kinda flowed from there. The basing was provided by the client, as he plans on using Istaarn as a leader in his tabletop army and was asked to be done in a low-key "ash wastes" style - it seems to nicely balance out the primary colors of the figure itself, anyways. To address a few things - the client didn't have instructions as to a shoulder insignia and has plans for attaching a banner himself, so the figure was primarily provided as-is with a general outline of a scheme and the actual color selection and style was left up to me; hopefully that clears a few things up as to the lack of freehand or added detail on the figure - he does have his name, "Istaarn," painted by me on the right shin, though.

I tried adding sooty dust effects on the legs and loincloth and it was tricky getting the color consistency right across both!

Comments and criticisms, please!

I really do like this guy, even with the restrictions placed on you by the client. It's not too fun when there's limits on your creativity. The balance of color is great, and the two tone bone areas are a great idea. My only suggestion would've been to have the force weapon arm blue instead of the gun arm, since the axe is more strongly associated with his librarian status. Minor details

Very solid mini. Maybe a less rough finish on the banner pole and gun's metal, and a nice banner/insignia on the shoulder pad would make it a definite 8 for me, cause everything else is well done. Like the skin tone, and the colour scheme is very nice; also, the base doesn't distract from the mini. Good job!

Nice mini underrated. It's cleasr that only a few people could see the hard work behind a mini. It's not for a 9, but maybe a 8. I hope this help you to go up.
