I painted this figure as an entry to Newbold World's charity painting challenge, where it placed second in the Newbold sculpts category. Cindy Dukino has painted a very pretty version of this figure in blue, and Alexi Z has done a lovely version in red/peach, so I decided to see what she might look like in green. I've painted red hair before, but not a real fiery red like this. I had a lot of fun with the hair.
My sculpting efforts are still fairly rudimentary, so I'm pretty happy with how the rug turned out. It was sculpted in GS, using an Exacto knife to do the texture along the edges. I used similar colours as those on the piece, but slightly duller versions, with the aim of preventing the rug from competing with the figure.

Ian Newbold 24-Mar-07 #219369 | | Rating: 10 Everything about this paintjob from the vibrant choice of colours to the exquisite face to the highly innovative and attractive base is excellent. It is at least as good as the other two versions mentioned. I am not at all surprised that the juges thought so highly of it. |
