LOTR Boromir

Never posted anything before - thought I'd toss one out there. I know I'm not going to win any contests, but I think it's reasonably solid and I'm curious for feedback. A friend took this picture for me. Once I figure out how to photograph minis, I'll try to post a few more.

Thanks Albert. The "not going to win any contests" comment was mostly just a comment based in humility. In fact, I entered this Boromir into last year's GW LOTR competition. I didn't win, but placed 2nd (with a different mini), but frankly was kind of pissed that I didn't win. I believe we have similar philosophies on painting. I paint for fun, and to improve as much as I can. I try to get in as much painting practice as I can, and am always working on improving my technique. Competition painting isn't my primary goal, but I work hard to improve my painting. If I get good enough to be competition worthy, then that's gravy.

It's a very nice boromir. But, let me say one thing to you: you don't have to (you mustn't) think that you won't win any contests. With this mentality you obviously will not win, but you have to try to improve yourself and think that practising one day you can get a golden demon. I have won a lot of awards, but when i painted my first miniatures i could not even imagine to win a golden demon. My philosophy when painting is: (apart from "enjoy painting") "Practising is the secret of triumph" and I'm sure you have the quality enough to arrive to paint very very very good. Best painter's first miniatures was as bad painted as my first one and as your first one. Think about this. Don't give up and don't despair, because this Boromir is very good!!!! Best regards, Albert

the clothes and the face look very nice. I think you should improve the metal parts, especially the sword looks a bit flat, try to wash it and highlight afterwards, then I will give you an 8
