When I began the paintjob I decided to paint the mini, as if the lightsource was coming from a high angle, slightly to the right of the miniature. To emphasize this I created a backgrund, by printing out an old picture I took some years ago when I was skiing. I edited the picture in Photoshop, so the sun was placed the right place, and printed the photo on matte photopaper with a photoprinter.
I think this is kinda the next step when it comes to taking good photos of your minis: putting them more in a context by creating a fitting backdrop.
