My squad entry to Golden Daemon this year. Sadly (but deservedly) didn't place, but the guys made first cut, so no complaints there
Made from a variety of parts and sculptwork. Torso/arms from Beastmen Gor's. Heads from Necromunda Goliath Gangers. Power Armour lower legs with greened beaten brass. Giant Psycho Hose Death Beast was originally one of the FW renegade ogryns. I chopped his legs off and sculpted my own power armour pair, as well as adding a heavy bolter as a 'side arm'. Jack hammer replaced with a placticard buzzsaw for added brutality
Blood effects were done with Testors Clear Red straight out of the jar, using the good old toothbrush flicking technique.
All told, I feel that despite not placing, I've accomplished something and taken my skills up a level. Still a lot to learn, but these guys are probably my best work to date, both individually and collectively.
Somewhere in the region of 250hours from conversion start to completion.
I'd like to thank the guys at Relicnews and Bolter & Chainsword for their feedback throughout the project, and also a warm thanks to the various guys I met on the day who had nice things to say about it. See you all next year!

Aulbath 29-Aug-08 #268556 | | Rating: 10 I think I haven't seen any Khornies with that much character as your guys - in fact, I think they would make great (comic) novel-characters or at least something great to appear in a round of pen & paper 40K.
Inspiring stuff! |
Tinweasel 22-Nov-07 #242264 | | Rating: 9 The execution of these guys is just amazing, and the conversion and GS work meshes so perfectly with the actual figures underneath that it is hard to tell where one stops and the conversion begins. I think the blood effects were excellently applied, and while "over the top," don't necessarily look out of place or unnatural. I think the biggest fault for me is the shading of the skin - everything else is painted excellently, even beautifully, but the gradiation and location of highlights vs. shading isn't quite up to the standard I've seen you do elsewhere. |
Ulrikk 11-Oct-07 #238014 | | Rating: 10 What lacks in painting skills is more than made up for by your stong vision and immense creativity. Very cool miniatures. |
Morthai 09-Oct-07 #237815 | | Rating: 10 Probably the best zerkers I've ever seen. Nice dynamic poses and great blood effect. Maybe painting could be done better but still overall effect is stunning. I know that word eaters have stupid legion icon but I think choosing darker pallet of colors for it would suit them better. |
jahminis 04-Oct-07 #237520 | | Rating: 9 best converted berserker squad ever...as has been said though, the paintin' let ya down in the end...the blood on the snow lacks any depth, and the skin could have used another highlight...that said, your bronze leg armour turned out wicked, especially on the ogryn...love the leapin' guy, and the double power fisted decapitator covered in arterial spray...
with conversions like this, if ya step up the paintin' skills, you should take home a daemon next year...

THE KILL 30-Sep-07 #237134 | | Rating: 8 I'm listening to Insect Warfare's Lp right now while looking at those bloody bastards. Broodl. |
SatiTheHun 29-Sep-07 #237011 | | Rating: 10 Congratulations for the final cut! You have done great job on those zerkers. The only thing I miss is their original basing... |
kabaddon 29-Sep-07 #237009 | | Rating: 10 Long time no see true Khorne devoted madmen... raiting 11 for the "BFTBG" feeling. And tachi-like chainsword... Most impressive ! |
Pharaun. 28-Sep-07 #236908 | | Rating: 9 The initial impact of this squad is exhilirating, the imagination and realisation is outstandingly dynamic. On closer inspection there are some painting issues which i think would let you down at the highest level and perhaps the size of the project and the hours spent in preparation left you less critical of the finish than maybe you could have been? I'm not a big fan of snow bases but that's a taste thing..regardless I love this piece of work and i'm sure you'll go further in the future. |
hubbabubba 28-Sep-07 #236887 | | Rating: 8 I like them, but I wouldn't invite them round for dinner.
I think the conversion work is alot stronger than the actual painting, although I think the total blood splattered look is going to be very big this year, and the chaps wear it very well.
Great squad, well done | |
