This guy is from a custom resin kit of about fifty pieces.
Since I was fortunate enough to get ahold of one of these rare kits, I wanted to make the most of the pose. A pose that is also quite rare in the Heavy Gear Blitz! line of miniatures is that of the Heavy Gear engaging its Secondary Movement System, where it relies more on its wheels or treads than its bipedal walking mode. This pose is a bit of both, where the Thunder Grizzly is coming out of SMS mode and skidding into a skating turn. To play to the animé artwork of Heavy Gear I also felt compelled to customize the hand so that the digits were separated and giving the impression of attempting to aid in balance.
In case you're curious about the size of this mini, the infantryman is 12mm.
Well, I hope you like it!

Mason 06-Nov-07 #240617 | | Rating: - Thanks for the comments, they're much appreciated. It is weird, though, that everyone seems to feel for the infantry officer, because he's part of the same faction as the Gear, and the Grizzly's swooping in to give his platoon support. That you guys think he looks dynamic and alive really makes my day, because so many mechs can look clunky and dull, but Heavy Gear's always been about nimble and agile machines. Cheers! |
Morthai 06-Nov-07 #240589 | | Rating: 10 Very nice dynamic pose and paint job, especially weathering effects. Somehow I can't shake off the feeling of pity for the guy below.... |
RichardSimons 05-Nov-07 #240564 | | Rating: 9 almost everything is perfect. especially luv the pose. looks very very live. just worries me a bit that he might fall. lol. |
Bill 05-Nov-07 #240504 | | Rating: 10 Superb weathering as usual, and I REALLY like the colour scheme on this one. I kind of agree about having a focal point, but this is just too fricking cool to mark down. Great work |
Mason 05-Nov-07 #240498 | | Rating: - I understand what you mean about focal point on the mini, but I think that's why I don't really have one, because for me the focal point is the pivot point that he's turning around, and hence shifting all his weight to steer towards.
Thanks for the comments though, in case you were wondering, the name Thunder Grizzly comes from the type of Gear being named after a grizzly bear, and the variant being the artillery command unit, hence the "Thunder."
Oh, and get on the P3 wagon already, the paints rock!!! |
AinuLainour 04-Nov-07 #240447 | | Rating: 9 Rich colours, bizarre name, dynamism, couldn't be much better! Just thinking there isn't a definite focal point, bolder colours on the breastplate and "head" would be welcome. Just like on the shoulderpad.
Alright though, guess this is enough incentive for me to jump on the P3 bandwagon | |
