I once told someone that I would never show this mini as I was so disappointed with it.
Well time has mellowed my opinion of it slightly and I thought it a shame not to have it in my gallery.
This was my first serious painting for competition after a long time off. I felt it never approached my expectations and so much of it is a disappointment.
I completely sculpted the chest of the avatar. Also 40% of his arms and legs. This was to make him more dynamic.... something that only partly succeeded.
The C'tan was in my opinion much more successful. He is the top half of the nightbringer model joined onto the bottom of the deceiver ctan. The arms are all sculpted as are the "flowing" cloth.
There are so many mistakes but I appreciate the model more now as I realise it was a good introduction back into the competition circuit.
Oh and the bloody hands completely messed up when he night before GD i mixed up the epoxy for a blood effect but after applying it my 6 month old son woke up and needed daddy. When I got back to the model the infamous "mittens of blood" were dry.
Rating: 10 Could ya please post the colours used on yr Nightbringer or mail them to me cause that is great!! The c'tan has colours you should be proud of and the avvy is great too. I wouldn't be really dissappointed, I'd probably be wasted with joy!
Rating: 8 bit of a mixed bag this for me Nigel, love the c'tan but i don't really like the avatar's stance, seems a bit like he's skipping.
As always though the paintjob itself is great, i love the transistion from green to red on the avatar
Rating: 9 A lovely piece Nige and some awesome work on the painting. The avatar screams out from the page with all the flowing colour transitions. The only thing I dont like is the pose and "the blood mittens"! Like you say, I think you only partially succeeded with the dynamic pose of the avatar. Still, i love it.
