This is a terrific sculpt, one which I loved from the moment I saw the green, so I was very pleased when Dark Sword Miniatures offered me the opportunity to paint it. (You can take a look at the studio photographs.) The skin and muscles are a major focal point of this figure, so I spent a lot of time on that. I wanted a very tanned and rugged looking skin, so I started by mixing an orangey-brown into my base skin colour. The same green used on the bracer was mixed into the skin shades, and the skin was glazed with an even orangier-brown. I used a lot of glazes on the figure - the main red and green colours were glazed on to the earth and rocks, loincloth and weapons to tie the colour scheme together and weather things a little.

Excellent work Wren, the skin is brilliant. It has that tanned/weathered feel to it without looking to orange, perfect for a barbarian.
I also really like the NMM on this one, very convincing. |

Now this is Barbaric Splendor! Great skintone, and the overall color scheme works great. The hair really has warm, rich tone to it. I like the eyes - they are done so he is looking up as he leaps and not down at the ground. |

Those muscles are awesome! Great job overall. Something about his face bugs me - I think it is the superhero jaw, which is more a sculpt issue. |

love the sculpt and love what you've done.. got a real richness to the skin and the muscles are defined great.. the only thing that lets it down a touch for me are the eyes they're just a touch large and stary if ya know what I mean?? other than that great work.. | |
