This was the piece I entered for the 2008 Black Scorpion painting competition

Originally I was going to paint their Chef figure, but just couldn't work out which colours to use or how to base it, so I picked their Navy Captain figure up when I went to Salute. The National Maritime Museum proved to be a great online source of period costume information, and although the conversion work is rather slight (Extra braid and tassels) I was quite happy with how it turned out as I don't do conversion work very much.
As for the base, I was rather happy with the result, the conch shell may be a tad large but they do get quite sizable. But really need to get some 2 part resin for water effects as the transparent gel is a real pain to work with and the surf effect covered up a multitude of sins . . .
Rating: 10 Congratulations on coming second! I really like this piece a lot, it has a great atmosphere. I especially like the captains face & the base although my only criticism is the black lining on the stone column looks a bit harsh.
Rating: 10 I love this your job the real fantastic painting, the special mention for the scenic base more realistic that I have seen for hour
my compliments
