Soviet Imperial Guardsman

My new army for 5th Edition (once the Guard Codex is out). Soviet style Imperial Guardsmen.
I'm not sure if I'm going to go the Mechanized route with them, or a horde of untrained C unit conscripts. I think I'm going to end up going mech with the amount of work involved though. Just means I get to make some Ru-55 (Leman Russ) Tanks and CMP-2 (Chimera) AFV's.
Scratch built helmet with a Catachan head, Cut down and modified Catachan lasgun, Cadian legs, Cadian arms with the shoulder pads removed, unarmored torso from the Tank Accessory sprue and accessories from Guard and Marine sprues.

What can I say that hasn't been said already! I guess maybe that I've seen these minuscule masterpieces in the lead up close and personal ! And yes @ mr gas! The A K is spot on!! Love these guys Alex! Army envy you might say !

They're magazine pouches. Same size as the Marine bolter ones (since thats what they are). I've also ordered brass etch Imperial Eagles for the guns. How can they not be a viable 40K army? The Guard have Mongol horsemen, British Imperial troops, Rambo clones, WWII Russians, Halflings, Ogres, and what ever the Vostroyans are... the only common link is the Imperial Eagle (which I have on his chest). =)

dude, those pouches are massive. also, you should try and keep some imperial ties, just so they look viable as a 40K army

I'm just kidding about how much trouble it is. It actually is work, but the end result is mine (except for the GW parts). Also, I think I'm going to take these guys to the Vegas GT next year. GW frowns on other manufacturers parts.

You can save yourself a lot of work if you'd have a look at Westwind productions or Pig Iron Heads.

Thanks. =) The magazine isn't wood. Its a polymer/Bakelite which were much stronger than the steel ones (I think). I tried the mags in metal before, but the weapon looked too shinny for my taste. Plus, it looks like the Airsoft one I have then. =)

Nicely done, though I'd personally paint the clips black or metal instead of brown, since I've never heard of ammo clips made of wood. Then again, in the grim darkness of the future...

Thanks Mr Gask! All I did was cut down a Catachan Lasgun, cut off the las-focus-thingy, cut off and glue the barrel back on upside down and glue on a magazine made from plasticard. Only about 20 min work a gun... 60+ guns to make... Help me... whimper...
