These ladies and their furry friend were sculpted for the Newbold World charity fund-raising efforts. Bards are a favourite character type of mine, so I was happy to have the opportunity to paint them up. I had fun painting them as sisters similar in colouring and skin tone, and who would have had their costumes made with the idea that they're a sister act. The colour scheme is based on a drawing in an historical costume book. As I painted them they became the Rose Sisters to me, and the idea behind the base is that they have admirers who throw them roses as well as coins. Perk is the cutest mini dog sculpt I've yet seen, and I really had a lot of fun with him.
I entered this diorama in the resurrected Chick Challenge 2008, where I was very pleased that it were voted Silver in the Open category by the Popular Jury vote, and it was also selected as co-winner in the Open category by the International Jury vote. This vignette will be auctioned off with the proceeds going to support the charities Children in Need and Comic Relief in the near future.

Great work on the little dog, reminds me of a friends pet, sweet, yappy, and just a little irritating, lol. | |
