The tattoo on her left arm came to me when I was trying to figure out something to give her a bit more personality. She obviously is in great shape, and a Chronotechnician of some sort (Sci-fi mechanic type), so I wanted to give her a cute tattoo that said something about her. The heart with the arrow through it traditionally was reserved for Mom, but I thought it would be cute if she had Dad put there instead.
I kept her basing pretty simple and ambiguous; I wanted the grey, yellow stripe, and circular metallic area to be pretty nondescript so that it could represent a modern street, a mechanic's bay, or the interior of a ship.
This was the first time I tried shaded metallics on a figure to this degree (using the great tutorials on this site). I think I like painting NMM better, but I'll give myself some more time playing with metallics to see if that changes with practice.
