some new pics of an old mini painted in 2002, that has just been returned to me, when I worked for GW. I'm curious to see if the better pics will improve the score. All comments and feedback welcome.

jarhead 30-Dec-08 #279483 | | Rating: 7 I guess a lot of people feel reminded on older days with that guy... not because of the mini itself - as you wrote the painting date is way back some days, but most have painted this time a lot... it's nothing bad about it... i really must say thanks to you... really reminds me of my older days too... Thanks for sharing again! Keep on happy painting! Regards jar |
A Luna 27-Dec-08 #279339 | | Rating: 6 I'm sorry but IMHO this really isnt a 7 or even an 8 (cleansingfury srslywtf?). The 'gold' is very roughly painted. Same with the highlights on the sword.. Those sharp highlights really dont mix well. Furthermore the skulls are all so white. I really miss the nice and clean paint job. |
cleansingfury 27-Dec-08 #279322 | | Rating: 8 The model at first glance looks great (5 base) then upon inspection no mould lines and then good ammount of actual detail raised it for me. However once you get past details you really scrounge... thats when I found the teeth. I am sure they should be yelow but they appear a little to yellow on his gace. Then there is the sword. A great work, execpt the hilt appears to be a little bent. That caught my attention.
The hairwas next, it looks like there is metal or something showing in places which could be highlights but it is to light to tell. |

mickc22 27-Dec-08 #279303 | | Rating: - Oh yeah, agree 100% Mike, this was really just to see how much difference the picture quality would make to the score using the exact same mini. I look at this and go "oh my", and I do actually have another one all primed up and ready, so I could do a side by side. Looks like I've got a new year project already
So, that's, finish painting the Stormvermin bust, while completing the the Orion sculp, (having bowed to public pressure) and paint a new Abaddon. Dunno what I'll do in February tho lol lol |
Dragonsreach 27-Dec-08 #279276 | | Rating: 6 Problem as I see this Mick is that you are putting up an old paintjob to compare against modern techniquies and colour usage. When this figure came out 10-12 years ago this paintjob would have been the Dog's Danglies. However now it look "dated" (bit like my fashion sense).
Much as you've got serious sentimental value for this I'd love to see this as a complete rework with a before and after series of pictures. | |
