This was a labor of love- got the idea to do a techmarine conversion in 2007 and picked up some bitz and got to work. The conversion took forever, but I finished it over the weekend in lovely Ipswich, England while on a 2 week business trip. I was congratulating myself on taking a weekend and finishing it up on Sunday night when I realized that the French GD had been that weekend. I could have just hopped across the channel and seen it. Oh well- my stupid.
Anyway, I got some great advice on the painting from a few folks, Todd Swanson, Seb Archer and Mike Stubbs, but as these things go I ran out of time and didn't get to implement a lot of their good suggestions. So I entered him in Baltimore 2008 and received an honorable mention. It was a fair judgment of the piece, it still needed a lot of work so I got back to it and completely repainted the red armor, most of the steel and gold NMM and almost all the scratches and weathering was re-worked. I also added more plants to the base and popped it onto one of my own turned wooden bases. It's a bit busy but had used it more as a learning piece so there's lots of activity going on there. Future ones will be a little simpler.
I took it up to Toronto this year and won gold in the toughest 40k category I've seen. I consider myself very lucky.
Anyway, it's a very 3D piece and tough to photograph. I've added some more angles on my website so I don't clog up CMON with multiple pics. Hahaha.
Hope you like it and any criticisms or comments are appreciated.
