This was my 40k Vehicle Entry for Los Angeles Gamesday, and I managed to squeak in a third place showing with it (finally have my first Golden Demon trophy! woohoo!). There's a lot not to like on it however (glossy slime, spot glossing are not big hits I have discovered).
I definitely learned a TON from both doing this piece and the reactions to it. I still have a hard time thinking about painting open wounds without gloss on them, but I'll have to see how my style evolves in that regard. These pictures do not include the full display base it was on at the show, but those will probably appear in White Dwarf.
I also think I converted so much detail onto the piece that I made it very hard for someone at my level of ability to paint the whole thing to a Golden Demon standard. I literally overwhelmed myself. I might be ready for something like that in the future, but at this point and while I was painting it, it was too much for me to handle.

No Such Agency 01-Sep-03 #51699 | | Rating: 9 Nauseating! Vomitous! Those 1st and 2nd place models must have been pretty freaking good to beat this. It looks like a lot of work, and well worth it too. Glossy slime and wounds may not be kosher in the modern style book but I think they add to this model in ways that simulated sliminess could not replicate. |

Ironbite 02-Jun-03 #40242 | | Rating: 9 Hey Shroud, Don't be too down on this. I placed second in the 40K single miniature category, and I thought that your nurgle tank should have placed higher than third. Just my humble opinion. |
the.super.hamster 02-Jun-03 #40203 | | Rating: 9 Congratulations on all your GD entries. You are very modest when it comes to your achievments which will help you get even better (that's a scary thought!) |
Gypsy 02-Jun-03 #40189 | | Rating: 7 All those bodies and slime and the glaring colours make this piece a bit of an overkill. One just doesn't know where to look first. But you said yourself that you had trouble with this; maybe you could repaint it one day when you feel up to it? |

This must have been one hell of a job! | |
