This is a repost of my first painted miniature, now that I have a better camera. The figure is from Reaper's Learn to Paint kit #1, which focuses on the techniques of washing and drybrushing. I didn't like the effect of drybrushing on the skin, so I tried to touch it up a bit with layering info from Learn to Paint kit #2, and also tried to use layering on his clothing. The part I feel turned out the best is the leather, particularly the boots. The parts I feel were least successful are the back of his sword hand and the blotchy layering on the sword forearm.

Temperance 25-Sep-03 #55086 | | Rating: 5 I like the color scheme. Blue and silver go well together. What hurts this the most is the chunkiness which plagues quite a few of your figures -- once you figure out how to get rid of that, your figures will probably average a point higher. I saw in another comment that you've been using Future Floor polish; it's good, but people seem to be use it most when thinning paints/inks for washes. For thinning acrylic paints, a small amount of plain water might be best. Two thin coats of paint (making sure the first is fully dry, of course) always looks smoother than one think coat.
This is a super good job for your first miniature. | |
