So basically I was inspired by the "official" paintjob (Steve Buddle's)
to do a somewhat "earthy" Shae, with no frills (read: no freehand,
no makeup on the eyes) or bright, garish colors. I wanted a very
soft, very feminine Shae and I think it panned out. Im also
continuing to use darklining (blacklining) on my work now, because
I've decided most of the great painters use this technique from
studying many photos.
I'm particularly happy with the face - I think she looks damn cute
for a piece of pewter! They are probably the best eyes I've painted
in ages. I did them differently than my normal techniques. What I
did was paint quite a dark flesh spot in the eye sockets - darker
than my planned elf-flesh skin tone for the overall figure. Then the
eyes were painted normally. When I painted the elf flesh basecoat, I
left just a thin line of that darker tone showing (as best I could).
The inner cape looks white in the photo but is actually a very soft
blue-green.
Probably the worst parts are A) I didnt clean her up enough, so
there are rough areas and the pants. I gave them a thin "Glaze"
of the basecolor to try and smooth out some chunky highlites, and it
sorta didn't work so well.
Hope you like.
Best Regards,
Jarrett Lee

I'm new at this, and have much to learn, but I can see well enough to appreciate good work and I can recognize what I like. Well done. |
petethemighty 22-Sep-03 #54627 | | Rating: 9 I really like the effect on this girl Jarrett, probably my favourite version of this figure so far. Simply put, my favourite part of a mini is the face (I spend hours sculpting and painting them) and this one is quite stunning. I particularly like the very pale tone, almost ethereal. Very impressive |

Jericho 21-Sep-03 #54390 | | Rating: 9 The soft tones really suit the figure well. I dig the cloak especially, that's a very nice shade of grey. It might just be your screen, because the inside of the cloak does look a bit blue/green like you said in the post. Great fig Jarrett | |
