This was my entry for the '03 Golden Demon. I found out it could have been a duel if it was on a 50mm base, i had assumed it would have to go in battle scene because its not 40k scale. i got a silver, i was very happy with that but i'm wondering what would have happened if it was entered as a duel on just a small 50mm base. this is what it's all about:
The original inspiration was from the picture in the Inquistor rule book at the beginning of the appendix. (since Inq. came out i've been inspired to sculpt.) i wanted to show the two extremes of the Inquisition, so the piece is an example of polarities. He is very experienced, radical and angry at being questioned by the other. She is young, puritan and calm in her faith that the Emperor is watching over her. They have come to a head in their discussion and this scene is a snap shot of their fight. He has just swung his sword in a left handed cleave, she has leaped over it and brought up her sword to strike back. He has anticipated this and let of go his sword to grab her loin cloth and pull her in to close to strike... the duel continues...

Avicenna 11-Dec-04 #114024 | | Rating: 9 Nah, it was entered by Richard Henderson!! Trust me, they are both part of my painting studio *chuckles* but yeah, Richard Henderson = Palocles, Mike Anderson = Babylonia. But I guarantee that it was entered by Rich! |
The Warpainter 11-Dec-04 #113974 | | Rating: 10 I really like this, but how come this was entered into the Golden demons by Mike Anderson, whos coolminiornot name is Babylona? |
Gearhead 26-Oct-04 #107837 | | Rating: 10 I LOVE IT!!! That window is beautiful, too! Mymil, I think it's called a "Lecturn" (sp?) and you're right: it adds a wonderful sense of action and agitation to the scene! |
Palocles 21-Mar-04 #78456 | | Rating: - Thank you, you're very kind. You can see the gold in Feb's White dwarf, if you're in england... IMO, the gold was not as well painted but as the category was battle scene and the gold was quite a battle he won. It was a Brettonian city in the desert being seiged by Tomb Kings with a Bone Giant in the breach... pretty cool. |
torifile 20-Mar-04 #78334 | | Rating: 10 Wow, if this only got the silver, I'd hate to see the gold! I can't even express how impressed I am with this piece, esp. since you scratchbuilt most of it. Outstanding! |
Seiya 30-Jan-04 #71709 | | Rating: 10 I have just read eissenhorn's trilogy ( by dan Abnett)...and I can realise what you are trying to tell with this mini history, and I think this is lovely and not only well painted and extremely well converting...It is well executed because the history is perfectly narrated |
Mymil 21-Oct-03 #57939 | | Rating: 10 Really nice! I like the shattered not-podium (but I can't remember the word), showing one effect of the fight. I think that the Space Marines "watching" the battle from the stained glass window add to the overall effect of the piece. The pose of the sister looks like it's one that would be held for such a short time that it is extremely rarely actually seen, thus giving it a sort of "Matrix" mid-air suspension pose. I really like this, and see the next step as her slash missing and his thrust not even being completed, as he tosses her to the side by her cloak, her landing and then both of them facing each other... I can definitely imagine a Sister looking calm in the middle of a battle. I'm a fan of the very dark armour. | |
