I admit that I have stolen the idea to make the base like the Tau-symbol from Vaitalla, she did it before me and I saw it there first. But I tried to do it very different way than she did.
I was lucky, because the guy that I bought the model from added two gun drones to the mini, just as a bonus. And quickly I realized that it would be great to use it as a base terrain, for the Tau symbol appereance. I cut the guns out of it and used them to create the front stick. I cut the bottom of the drone disk, but not all of it and glued it to the base so it looks like it's levitating above the ground.
For the paint scheme, I went for dark cloak, much darker than the way GW painted the mini (I think they painted it mid-brown from inside and white from outside), to make the inner bright shroud stand out.
I think that I got much closer to the gold with my NMM gold, it's not that shiny and that yellow anymore. Before I was using 50/50 mix of Golden Yellow and Snakebite Leather, this time I added Bleached Bone to the mix, the same portion, so it's 33/33/33 now.
For the head of Ethereal I went for much more blue color, because if I stayed in the same colors GW used, the head would dissappear in the collar painted blue/grey way.

Very nice... the Ethereals are my favorite Tau models by far (not a big fan of Tau in general..) I also think that if the drone had been painted black and white, the symbol would have been cooler, but this is awesome nonetheless. Good work |

I love the mini. I didn't see the base as the tau symbol until I read your comments. I think this is because drone draws too much of my attention, when the drone is actually supposed to be the black or 'empty' part. perhapes painting the drone black and makeing sand ast the actual ground would fix this. But you own the model, your call! |

Excellent model! The only thing I can think of to make the base more obviously like the Tau logo is to have the middle of the drone a different color from the rim. It just emphasizes the globe on top a bit more. Great mini overall though. |
