I've been told that I do bones and flames fairly well, so I decided to put those skills to the test on a Legion of the Damned model. In hindsight, I may have been a bit too subtle with the black highlights, but c'est la vie. I have to say that I'm still pretty happy with how the bone and flames turned out.

Sorry about the orange tint on the bones. In daylight, the bones look more tan to white, whereas under artificial interior lighting, the off white of the bones ended up picking up a yellow-orange tint. I'm going to have to invest in an Ott-light for photography one of these days...
As for the head, the face was so pinched and drawn, I immediately saw the skull-like similarities. Since the armour is decorated like a skeleton, I thought it only made sense to paint his head to match. It wasn't a "natural" colour for skin, but Legion of the Damned marines are supposed to be ghostly apparitions, so the "natural" look was completely out. |

Didn't really notice this mini before it came on the Blast from the Past on the news page, but I like it quite a bit. The subtle black is always a favorite of mine, looks good that way and adds contrast with the flames. Personally I'd have done the bones on the armor a bit brighter, they look a tad orange. But the base, flames, and banner make this well deserved of the 8.0 average. |

I like the subtleness of the black highlights. To me though the bone on the character it's self seems abit too "orange" for my liking. The flames are top notch though. |

You've been told right.
I think the black looks good subtle. You don't want to be as bright as the flames. Maybe the sword could use more, but I can't really tell from the angle.
I like the mini but still think this line looks silly: "back off or I throw this skull at you!"
or: "You'll listen to my Hamlet or I'll cut your bloody 'ead off!" | |
