I remember coming across the green for this by Ash and thinking it was such a fantastic sculpt, very brooding and with loads of character.Hints of Rackham but with an extra quality which gives the figure so much more. This is the reason why I painted him up as a mutant.Looking from the front there is no sign, apart from the sorrowfull look on his face and the way his head is bowed looking like he has something to hide.It is only when you look from the other side you can see what he is hiding in the form of his mutated face.
I felt this was a great way to represent the reason for the sad look he has.
As far as painting goes I decided to jump in with some freehand and Im really pleased how it turned out.The black coat was done by basecoating black and wetblending a very dark blue highlight then washing the recesses with multiple layers of inks including black, blue, red, purple. This gives an excellent pearlescant look thats not evident in the photos.I then added the sharp highlights to the creases to give the coat some shine.
I decided he would look at home on an industrial base and I added some "toxic waste".This was made by simple adding bright green paint to epoxy glue.I also resized a pic of his face and designed some "wanted" posters, printed them out and placed one under his foot. Its adds to the narrative a bit for me,showing him as a hunted man.
Well I hope you like him as much as I have enjoyed painting him,so much in fact that Im going to do another, something I have only done once before.
Big shout out to the gang in the WIP thread for their help.
Votes and comments appreciated as ever.
Mark.

This is beautiful. Freehand is fantastic, NMM is possibly a little too bright but overall its incredibly pretty. Great job!

For me some of Sacred Blades stuff seems hit or miss. This one definately is a hit. Especially with your treatment of it.

Very nice! The mini is very clean and the freehand is just outstanding. I really like the colourscheme too. The black is a bit too harshly highlighted. Nothing wrong with contrasted highlights, but I'd first place a darker grey and the lighter and last I would glaze the transistions subtly. The hair could use some subtle glazing too. The mutated part of the head looks harsh compared with the other part, you could also have done a transition where the skin gets more and more mutated. By the looks of it, the roughness of the paint is from a casting error. I really like the mood you set with this mini and i like it much. Good job!

Thanks everyone.Im really proud of the job I did on this one and Im chuffed to bits you all like him.The coat seems to be letting him down a touch from the comments. Its highlighted with deep blue.Yes the crease highlights are abrupt, something I did on purpose to make it shine a bit, though looking at it in the close ups it does need to be more subtle. Thanks again.Mark

Mark, fantastic piece of work! The freehand is flawless, just a great paintjob! The only thing that kept me from giving him a 10 was that the highlight on the jacket at the bend of the elbow seems a bit harsh in the picture, probably looks fine IRL. I also really like your scratchbuilt base! You just keep getting better and better.

well mate, i didn't even know you was able to do something this clean and difficult technically... i'm very impressed by your mini i already saw in the wip section! so 1st of all, congratulations for this top notch work and for having so clean finish with that zoom. Criticism?... hmmm.... still looking for some wait a moment please well... maybe you could blend the transitions in the black coat and do it more greyish... but hey, i had to look at the pic for several minutes to find something lol congratulations again mark - Michael
