CoolMiniOrNot Forums - Wyrd Painting Contest: Total Testosterone 2008
  • Wyrd Painting Contest: Total Testosterone 2008

Once again it's time to kick things off with another Wyrd Painting Contest. As with last year, we've decided to return to a popular theme; Total Testosterone - 2008!

Overwhelming muscles, the need for a big weapon and the underlying instinct to show off for the fairer sex? If the answer is yes, then your miniature is more than qualified for the Total Testosterone painting contest!

The contest will run from June 1st through July 20th and during that time competition entries can be submitted. At the close of the contest, voting will commence for one week where you will be allowed to vote anonymously through the Wyrd forum software as well as leave comments and critique which we have found our previous entrants have greatly enjoyed. After the voting, announcements will be made and prizes sent to the winners, along with the random prizes that we give away with every contest.

Due to the theme, your miniature must be male, and to be more specific, a human or humanoid type. Examples are: Humans, elves, dwarves, halflings, centaurs, male vampires, ogre bulls, WWII cyber-zombies ... etc. The list is rather long and and open, but if you should question it, please contact me and I will give you a final decision upon it. The miniature(s) can be from ANY MANUFACTURER.

The specific rules for the contest can be found on the Wyrd Miniatures website on the forums under 'Wyrd Painting Contest: Rules and Information'. I would really like to stress folks to read the rules, as folks tend to miss them for some reason and they end up misunderstanding the contest, the theme or disqualify themselves. The main thing to keep in mind is that all entries are supposed to be anonymous!

The categories for the contest are:

ALTERNATIVE: The men that just don't seem to fit anywhere else in the categories. Cowboys, naval officers or chainsaw wielding postal workers (okay, that last one wasn't funny - really!)

DEADLY DUEL: A diorama with two or more combatants locked in combat or something equally disturbing. At least one miniature must be male.

FANTASY: Sword wielding barbarians, magic casting magicians, deadly muscled assassins ready to draw you blood. If the miniature is pure fantasy, this is his category.

SCI-FI: Gun blazing street samurai of the deadly future or weapon wielding aliens dancing a song of death or perhaps a steampunked necromancer plying his disgusting trade. A wide range of miniatures will fit nicely into this category.

MONSTER'S BALL: Due to demand and the fact that we just can't seem to get away from folks want to enter male monsters, we've returned with this category. If its a male, and a monster of any sort (this will include everything from centaurs to wanged demons), then here he goes.

Wyrd Miniatures naturally provides the prizes for this contest, with each category winning having a 1st, 2nd and 3rd place prize as well as numerous 'Random Schmuck' and 'Voting Schmuck' packages we give out randomly to encourage your participation. Miniatures can, and do commonly place in more than one category.

1ST PLACE PER CATEGORY: $40 Gift Certificate.
2ND PLACE PER CATEGORY: $25 Gift Certificate.
3RD PLACE PER CATEGORY: $15 Gift Certificate.

BEST BASE OR DIORAMA: Full set of Wyrd Inserts and Accessories and a $50 Gift Certificate.

BEST OF WYRD: Wyrd T-Shirt of your choice and $50 Gift Certificate.

BEST OF SHOW: Wyrd T-Shirt of your choice and $75 Gift Certificate.

I am once again looking forward to a great contest as they seem to be getting bigger and better with each passing due to your participation and enthusiastic entries. Thank you! If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to ask.

I have my minis for this one already. Won\'t be doing Ebay comps untill it\'s done. I think I have a good idea this time. Something people will like with current minis in it instead of the old oop ogre I used last year. Trying for better than 3rd place this time. Wish me luck!

I\'m not sure I can take entering a tournament where people can enter multiple entries into the SAME category, thereby wiping out all competition and winning 1st 2nd AND 3rd.

How can you come joint fifth in a category with only 3 entrants!? :P

I have never entered for a competition before, think i\'ll make this the first one! Just one question, how do you remain anonimous when you have to log into the site, in order to post your mini\'s?

Server messed up the DNS today, then tried to fob it off as a bunch of people that didn\'t know what they were complaining about.

Went up, now its back down. Hopefully it should be rectified soon.

In the mean time, looking forward to the entries and some new blood as well.
