Just to add, I first posted pics of this old Red Orc mini in post #19 of this thread http://www.coolminiornot.com/forums/...ighlight=cream He really doesn't have any eyes!?! Just a pair of huge saucer-like dimples!
And the moon has been shamelessly copied from an advert in White Dwarf #118 for some Marauder Orc Boar Riders :D

Thanks Cheelfy :) I've done bits of shield decoration before but I'm really quite pleased with this one :D He is a scrappy little chap but I really like his head (I was going to call it Gnomic but just looked the word up & it doesn't mean what I sensed it might). Current thought is that the next one will be done in rusty-red flesh with my first go at a Blanche-esque Evil Sun shield design with chequered border. Eyes as (balls, Gimlet doesn't mean what I thought either) large as the socket to hopefully give the impression of a subterranean creature. Cheers, B.

That's a thought Danny, I hadn't considered it, at least after deciding it was an unnecesary annoyance :) I initially thought the bronze could extend up the back of the blade, with the more expensive steel cutting edge just on one side (impoverished Goblins eking out resources & all that) but it just looked weird :D I've just checked a handful of the others & the groove is present on all, so not a casting error.
I'm off to see if this PVA has dried on his base yet...

Probably meant to be a 'blood groove'(real word: fuller), then. But that's a fairly sofisticated metallurgical technique. Not something you'd expect goblins to use. Not that it matters in the least, just fun to consider. :)Quote:

I wondered last night if I might spend a little more time on the Red Orc? Now the time has come, the answer is no :D A nice bit of weekend fun & I'm happy to leave him as that. Let's see how the local GW react when I try to enter him in the WHFB Single category for the half-term competition! Mirth is my guess :)

So I wondered if I could do a shield in an evening again. Not quite it turns out :) Cleaned him up a bit & undercoated, then it took me a while to find the lines of the design & now I ought to quit as it's a work night :( Coming together well enough now though, not so clownish...

Hi James, no flat work really since school. I liked the challenge aspect of art class where you were told to produce something within fairly tight confines & subsequently got a bit lost as the lessons became more free. I have no zinging inspiration that's fired me up to produce anything. It's why I like the colouring-in aspect of minis, the shape's been laid out for me :D Cheers, B.
