After having 2 games with the 'new' Flayed men (3+ save for 9 points) I can say I do not mind.
the points drop makes up for it, as does the panic token when you charge which is a massive boon...

Recently I bought 2nd hand a whole lot of FF. (2x starter, spearwives and 2x cave dwellers)
I already had a starterset, 2 extra boxes raiders and a single unit of cave dwellers.

Alas. Craster is only in the Free Folk starter.
(I hope they offer some way of getting Craster outside of that starter at some point but they might not)

Having proxied Bolton Blackguards once Ican vouch for them.

As for "which boxes to buy" after the starter set?
My picks/recommendations are:

Starks after core-set;
1) Umber Greataxes (adds somethng new and an answer to everything if positioned well) ...

The price drop (mentioned by Michael Shinall) to 6 will help a bit too I think.
Ideally (for me) the Blackguards would be a 3+ save/7+ morale or 4+ save/6+ morale.
This means a fairly solid unit...

To be fair; having a mere speed of 2 certainly hampers your ability to charge.

Roose bolton (cmdr) + Cersei
Flayed men + added mounted behemoth

Apart from Knights being knights they also give you a fast unit.
Which drastically alters stuff. Highly recommended to add a fast unit in *any* army.

Perhaps the confusion comes from Catelyn Stark claiming the wealth-zone?
She can remove a negative token from a different unit but this is her ability.

Most people go for crossbowmen but I prefer to couple Tyrion with Cavalry.
In the single game played with himI actually had my Knights charge a unit, later used the maneuver spot on the tactics...

Played 3 games with this list. 2 wins and one (narrow) defeat where dice massively crapped over poor me.
(undamaged swornswords got charged by swornswords who netted 13 hits (Stark fury&stark luck)...

During our latest game, we encountered something that wasn't clear to us both.
