This may be my stingy nature, but I go for stack-able trays, sorted by color, made from those smallish wooden boxes that clementine tangerines often come in at grocery stores. Perfect for me...

Wow. I've somehow missed this thread until now. (I am quite sad to say.) Great work, and very interesting choice of models. :hypnotized:
Seconded. Get Gimp. It's not as user friendly as Photoshop, but once you get used to working within selections, something simple like layering photos is a quick task. For a free program, it's fairly...

Thanks Andy. Pro tip right there!
Glad you guys like it. See, us wargamers and mini-painters aren't all bloodthirsty, warrior-ess-ogling, basement-dwellers; we appreciate the finer things, too,...
He's done! Phiu. On to mould-making and casting, and then hopefully painting next week!
Some shots of him. Not held together by anything, I just sculpted the arms, feet, head and body with...
Haha, oh woooow. Somebody was a bit drifty. Oh, me, you say? Never! Here's the link!
Ok, all that's left is the torso, and then I can cast and paint him! Excited to finally have a treeman, I mean really, what self-respecting Wood Elf army doesn't have a freikin' Treeman???
...
Actually, the photos aren't all that bad. BUT, here's an article I found on Dakka Dakka (is that kosher???) that is superb. It's basically how to spend no money, and get good photos of your minis out...
Excellent! As well it should be.
Wow. Looking Awesome thusfar. Will this be cast, or is it purely personal pleasure?
I'm trying to type something meaningfull, but my jaw is dragging across my keyboard, and I can't shut it...
So true. Confuses me at least. BUT, I have to go with Zab and reiterate again, that unless you're going for uber-gallery spiffiness, that's a pretty durn good model!
I'd say you were pretty close to your goal then. It's looking great, thus far. I can't wait to see him all finished.
Also, you guys who completely finish one section before starting in another...
Definitely. I used to do that for "snowy" paintings when I was a little kid. It's more of a speckled effect than the alcohol, which runs, as I remember.
Not mini specific, here, but he walks through the general idea...
Super cool idea. I've always wanted to try to create a model that was supported all around by upward and inward facing magnets, so it could truly float with zero connection to the base. That would be...

I vote for something dangling from/emerging out of/getting sucked into that top-of-the-head mouth/fang thing. Tentacles, or some sort of gushing liquid or somewhat... Perhaps? It's a tricky question...
...Aaaaand the thread is successfully de-railed. See? SEE? This is what puns do. They punish the innocent. :quiet:
Bwa, bwa, bwaaaaaa. Hey now, hey now, was that necessary? There might be children present, who'll get the idea that punning is ok!
Finished him up! Can't wait to cast him and paint a model.

Acrylic with a tiny drop of alcohol creates some pretty interesting and complex marbling effects, if control and precision are not necessary.
I have to admit, I'm primarily a paint-and-water washer. I've used the GW inks, washes, shades, or whatever they're called now, and a variety of other stuff. My entire family is visual artists, so...
I'm no master painter, but personally I haven't had much problem with Matte varnishes in general. They do have a slight blending effect, and they also don't have the shiny, colour-intensifying effect...
I've more or less finished up my work-sculpt, so now it's back to play-sculpt. YAY! I've got the two arms of the Treeman well under way.
The left one, here, will be reaching forward in a "rawr"...
Ooooh there he is! I love him. That is definitely the most devious looking tree-person I have ever seen. Nic job, man!
Loving your work, after having a look through your site! Couldn't find the treeman on there though, do you have a direct link?
Pretty much finished him up, now. Just some detailing on the armour, cleaning up edges, etc.
Last three WIP photos: Added in some limbs......
New sculpt I'm working on/just starting. It's the "King"figure for a new coming game, Cathedr'l, a fantasy-Chess RPG. I'm working from the first image.

Most of my few sculpty hours last couple days have been turned over to working on "The King" for someone else, sigh. BUT I did get the basic right arm of Mr. Treeman all blocked in. Hopefully...
Thanks guys. The main trunk is Super Sculpey Firm, attached to the wire armature with fresh greenstuff. The details are obviously greenstuff as well.
Starting in on a treeman, now! So far, I'm having a blast. I've just done the head, sort of a dopey-yet-grumpy, lopsided face, pealing bark, a few spites, some mushrooms, etc. Considering either some...
VERY nice article, thanks! It's like talking to my dad, but slowed down and visible. Excellent!

Dragon, thanks. Yeah, a lot of the sculpts are pretty scuzzy. I actually thought the painting was worse, though. Glad you disagree!
Bailey. Honestly, I'm really not worried about ratings, more...
Hey, thanks guys, all of you. Yeah, most of them are pretty rough, but I'm working on it! Startng in with the green stuff, too. The last two are part sculpey, part green stuff...
Thanks for the...
Ooooh, that is just, just, well... I'm going to go with, "fun!"
Aha! Ok, thanks. I guess it'll be a while until I can see it then!
GOod to know!
Hi guys, I have a question.
Since I joined CMON a couple weeks back, I have been consistently listed as the worst artist on the site. Now, this may be, I'm certainly in the lower echelons, I know...
Yes indeed! If you're not still investing in secrecy, I think we're all officially dying to know what this killer-bunny and zombie game is about...
Ah, but we, sadly, are not Thomas David!
Also, Zombies too?? What kind of game is this? I must admit, my interest is piqued...
Oh, if you'd like to play around with pricing options on my site, you can find the tool to do so here, and a pricing reference here.
Green Stuff (kneadatite blue/yellow) is the standard for master sculpts for casting. It works well for detail, and to make molds from, but it isn't overly durable in and of itself.
$10 per mm of...
Of course! ;)
Loooking forward to hearing from you,
-Zack
PM Sent! Hope to hear from you soon.
Good Luck,
