We wish to express our thanks to Sally & Kev of Hasslefree Miniatures for this generous donation of \"Victoria & David\" to benefit my son Alex\'s hearing aids. This auction has been a wonderful success and as stated by several people this was a wonderfully altruistic action by a truly wonderful family and a great Miniature Company that supports and cares about it\'s customers and fanbase.

This auction has helped tremendously in bringing us closer to our target goal of being able to pay for Alex\'s hearing aids. We knew that our auctions and items would sell, but Sally & Kev\'s donation has made such a difference beyond what we could have hoped for.

Thank you to everyone that bid on this auction it is appreciated.

    Hey Maya,

No, to be honest, I haven\'t gotten as far as to officially get a lawyer, as the cheapest one was $1300, and some wanted as much as $3500! And my daughter will be the EASY adoption...:flame:

I\'m not going to get the chance to adopt my son, which is troubling.

I\'m not expecting my minis to pay for the adoption, but if I end up getting a good start on it, that\'d be great. This all on top of other things that are sucking me dry...

I\'m terribly sorry to hear you\'re having such difficulty getting help from the state with all of this. All I can say is keep trying and talk to other parents of hearing disabled children, they may be able to point you to other avenues.

Have you tried teaching your son some sign language? I\'m not nearly fluent even now, and children can learn to communicate much faster and earlier with it. Not too hard to teach them simple things like food, more, done, etc.

And there\'s nothing like having a child give you the \"I love you\" sign.:flip:

    @Zora

If I were you, I\'d keep looking around the lawyer community and ask each one what they can do for payments as far as a payment plan and the like. Not to pry, but why can\'t you adopt your son as well? This is something you should also be asking the local lawyers. Here there are plenty that would have no problem with doing the adoption with the same paperwork for two children for the same cost and at the same time as adopting just one. Someone in your area should be able to help point you to a lawyer who can do that.

I can understand about the bills. Because of Alex\'s medical bills for the past year, my fathers recent emergency heart surgery and the fact that he has to go back to surgery this week, we have had to pick and choose what bills to pay. I have to do everything online from my mother\'s studio because I had to pick between internet and electricity. Obviously the electricity won. It\'s that way for all of my bills. I\'ve even had to drop the last year of college less than 6 hours away from my degree because we can\'t afford it and the school won\'t accept financial aid unless I need 9 or more hours.

Yes, I have talked to other parents and I\'ve tried every avenue available here for months and the only one available is to pay for hearing aids myself. I checked every available option for months before I ever started selling anything off to pay for Alex\'s hearing aids. All other venues have been fully explored. Because of his complex hearing loss, he needs specific hearing aids, which is why we have given up our miniature collections to pay for them. That others are unselfishly willing to help has been a blessing which we never expected. After impatiently waiting for 12 months on the 6 specialists and 5 hospitals and clinics to come up with a diagnosis, we found ourselves in a sudden rush to beat the 3-year mark. We have been aware that a child acquires 70% of his everyday language by the time they are 3 and our time is quickly running out. We have repeated his to the doctors and clinics for the past year, but to no avail. They still would not accept their finding and kept sending us to another place to \"confirm\" their findings. No one could agree on any tests and after 4 Sedated ABR\'s, we knew our time was going to run out. On our own, we started taking him to other doctors whom friends had recommended until we actually found one who would act on his test results. That 12 months costs us more than a mountain of medical bill (after insurance), but cost Alex his chance to be already hearing for a full year.

Alex knows simple signs, but the doctor says that with hearing aids, his hearing will go from the nearly none he has now to 100% hearing, so sign language has only been a temporary fix until he gets his hearing aids. While it\'s not hard to teach a child sign language, Alex knows many signs and the associated words, but he does not use signs to talk unless we ask it of him. He prefers to talk and he tries to talk, but without aids he can\'t hear well enough to pronounce the correct sounds. If he were deaf and had only a small chance of having his hearing restored, I would see that he was fully immersed in sign language. As it is, he has the ability to have complete hearing and anything less is not acceptable. Alex deserves the chance to enjoy music, the world around him and language when his hearing is corrected. He\'s capable of, and does verbally say, \"I love you\" ,using what sounds he perceives, and I want to give him the chance to say the correct sounds someday.

    Maya~

To put it mildly, my son\'s biological father is back in the picture recently - hence my separation and upcoming divorce.

The last thing I want to do is create trouble since I have no legal leg to stand on, and it\'s important to me that this not affect the kids.

Having multiple parents that love you should not be a bad thing...

I\'ve decided to try to help the cause and am watching and bidding on a couple of things myself.

Just wondering if you know the average shipping for a pack of minis to Ontario Canada, and maybe the shipping for 5 or so packs?

I would love to help you out as well as get my hands on some of the awesome stuff you are getting rid of, just not sure if it fits in the xmas budget.

Sorry to see you have to let so much go, but at least its for the best possible cause.

@Gilvan Blight Heyas, for single 1 item blister pack the shipping cost would be $2.91 to Canada for 1-5 blisters. (for the heavier multi mini packs the shipping would change based on the total weight.) Maya~

I\'ve bought a few things, don\'t do check out yet as I\'ll probably pop back when I have more time and get some more stuff.

Events such as these is why I am a firm believer in no questions asked, state funded healthcare, like the NHS, especially for kids.

I wish that was the case. The following part of this post is not directed at you:)

As of today, we are halfway to our goal of 5,000 USD for Alexander\'s hearing aids. I wish to give a heartfelt thank you to everyone who has helped us get to this point. Raising 5,000.00 USD on 2-3 dollar average miniatures is a mammoth undertaking with ebay and paypal fees. We have received six cash donations and seven donations from companies and individuals. Both of us are very grateful for these donations and the rest of these will be auctioned off as soon as the auctions are ready.

As of today, Ann and I have decided that we will not be accepting any more donations, either in cash or of miniatures from individuals or manufacturers. The remainder of the amount Alex needs will come from the sales of our items off of ebay only. For those who have donated cash or miniatures, feel free to pm either of us privately if you wish your donation returned. We will be glad to comply. This applies as well to those in progress.

The reason for our doing this is simple. Apparently we\'ve upset several people greatly because we have not managed to raise 5,000.00 USD in the month we have been auctioning items and questioning our motives for auctioning items. I\'m not referring to folks asking in kindness how close we are, if we are there yet or for a general update. Friendly inquiries are always welcome!! It\'s the nasty, spiteful jabs that are not welcome. While I understand and lament the fact that such people exist everywhere, even in such an extremely nice community as gamers and miniatures lovers, between Alexander\'s need to hear, my fathers second heart surgery yesterday and my own health, spiteful, nasty people are something I do not need to deal with. The toll emotionally is not needed or appreciated. And no, I\'m not going to name and shame because I won\'t dignify these people\'s actions with the attention that they are obviously so desperately craving and unable to get in their lives otherwise. Our own auctions will continue because Alex needs his hearing aids. Feel free to bid if there is something you like.

I\'m so sorry to hear that :( Some people are such gigantic *****bags. It\'s one thing to be skeptical of any hard-luck stories told on the intertubes, but it\'d be pretty easy to confirm that you are a long-standing member here and not just mystery internet person #4237.

I\'m just glad I could do my tiny part AND feed my Figmentia at the same time ;)

Unbelievable... Some people don\'t deserve to share the same air as the rest of humanity.

    Sorry to hear about this.

Feel free to send me their names. I don\'t mind calling an idiot an idiot or a sphincter a sphincter.

I\'m off to go bid and buy or raise the price on more items.

On to more plesant subjects: got HRS or Child Welfare involved? Surely there is a program to help pay for these? Tried the hospital? Ask the ear doctor? Send a letter to the manufacturer of the aids?

I know I would never ask for myslef, but for my kids I\'d sell everything I owned - starting with my hobbies. (just as I see you doing and it is breaking my heart)

@No Such Agency Questioning is one thing, outright nasty vicious attacks is completely another. :/

    @Zaphod I completely agree.

@airhead Tried the HRS and Child Welfare. The hospital doesn\'t have a thing to do with the aids past sedated tests for hearing ranges (which we\'ve already had done). The doctors don\'t do payment plans, except for one that wanted another round of testing with their own doctors (about another years worth) and then it was something like 4k upfront instead of 5. Tried the Lions club, the shriners, etc, etc, etc. Basically if there was any chance of help we tried it.

Don\'t let our selling off our collections bother you! We have no regrets about the minis. Minis can be recollected or re bought, but Alex only has one window of opportunity for language learning. We are grateful that we had our collections at this time, because just as you said, it gives us a place to start fund raising and as a hobby is something waaaayyy less important than my son. :)

I completely understand - I\'d sell my minis, my fishing gear, my car and my house for my kids. I know it truely is only stuff and you can always get more stuff, but it is YOUR stuff. It is a shame that you have to sell your stuff to get your kids the proper medical care. I am not for socialized medicine, but there has to be a balance somewhere.

Kids are a gift and must be enjoyed to the fullest.

    cfwheeler58 Benefit Auction Rackham Ashan\'Tyr

My son, Alexander, was finally diagnosed with hearing loss and the digital hearing aids he requires are beyond our present finances. To offset this amount as much as possible we have been cleaning out our families miniature collections. We have been fortunate that members of the gaming and miniature communities have offered their help through either donations of cash or items to sell, or by buying eBay auction or store items.

To help defray these considerable cost of the hearing aids, cfwheeler58 of CMoN has very graciously donated an out of production limited edition, still blister sealed, of Ashan\'Tyr from the Wolfen faction in Rackham\'s Confrontation game.
