Yeah, I\'m in two minds on this as the Original classes as amongst my top rated films of all time.
It was and is the first truely Science Fiction Movie of the 50\'s movies, taking away from the \"Brain Eating Monster\" to a more cerebral and yet as equally threatening Alien.

Michael Rennie\'s portrayal was used as the model for Spock (IIRC) and also touched upon by David Bowie in \"The Man Who Fell to Earth\".

The American movie industry must really be scraping the bottom of the barrel as far as ideas go. The main stuff that seems to come out is either a rehash or a comic adaptation.

It must reflect the tastes of the movie-watching public and make money I suppose. Problem is, if you eat enough shit, there\'s a chance you\'ll get a taste for it. Look at McDonalds. People need to be weened off this diet of unthinking crud!

    yeah ummm....

all i can say is \"woah\" in a stupid keanu style.

if they think this tripe will actually work lets refer to the horrible remake of war of the worlds.

\"no dad i have to go and fight\"

and i swear to god if i hear dakota fanning scream one more time i will pistol whip the poor girl. and thats just out of sheer boredom.

This is a bad idea. They\'ll re-write it and add more action and change the plot somehow.

I\'m simply going to refuse to watch it now, and save any effort when it\'s released.

I find it hard to believe that all the new ideas are gone....

    but Hollywood thinks so.

Better this than a revival of the musical genre.

    Didn\'t they just re-make Hairspray?
And there\'s two High School Musical movies.

Well I have a small hope that this movie will stay true to the original, just to show this and the next generation what a good movie is and not everything has to explode.

    Fingers crossed.....

Ugh... just another case of Hollywood figuring it was good the first time so lets get some wooden hack arse to screw it up, it\'ll still be good. Right... right? Why isn\'t anyone watching our remade movie....

    Uh, \"Klaatu barada nikto\" DR?

I\'m doing my best to find out as little as possible about the remake before it comes out (as usual) so other than Keanu Reeves being in it is a definite plus AFAIC that\'s all I can really say.

They should make the robot look EXACTLY like the original. That would rock.

Of course it would, but they won\'t. It will end up looking like a mix of the Transformers and Iron Man. The fx geeks will add lots and lots of small figgity moving parts/details.

What\'s funnier is that while the media is busy telling us how the US economy is falling apart, Iron Man opens at $100M. So not only can we still pay ridiculous ticket prices to go to the theater but we\'ll do it for the drek and rehash
