    Thats about it
Smoothing in the edges of the shading with some mid tones
Re-tweak the highlights for some extra impact
Re-touch the shading where it\'s been subdued too much
    Check the mid tones again
    And repeat :)

That base is excellent! Figure looks great too. I also love that Eowyn figure, simple yet elegant and very fun to paint. I\'ve got a spare, maybe I\'ll have a second go at it :)

I read in another topic that these are your entries at GD. Good luck at the competition! I think both minis are coming along very well and I hope they place! I really like the way the cloth is turning out on Eowyn.

Well, the rider and Eowyn finished, obviously cause I entered them at GD yesterday . . .

I\'ll try and get some pictures up after Euro
But Ive got to finish another piece for that which is next weekend
So going to be a bit busy over the next couple of days

Anyway, some of you saw my Euro piece at the GD lunch time meet-up
But for the others, here\'s an early pic form the middle of last week

Well I\'m slowly starting up again
    (Warhammer online does not help . . . )
Got some initial ideas sketched out
And starting on the base work

So here\'s the state of the first one
The sketch, and some tests for base size
Now I just need to get a 3cm square plinth :)

Here are the base layout tests
I was quite happy with the stairs
First time I\'ve used any plasticard

Well I\'ve finally managed to undercoat figures and start painting again
Meanwhile I\'ve done the base for the 2nd Eowyn figure
The idea was to have a floating sections similar to the last one
And I\'ll try and use similar colours, although this one has a cloak
Not sure how that bit will end up

    Lovely bit of basework Conrad.
What have you constructed it out of?

Was asked that on the OZ forums as well . . .

It\'s just more of that \"Hard\" plaster I use, same as the first Eowyn base
The main point is to get a high grade plaster that sets hard enough
Normal plaster for walls and the like is a bit too crumbly

I actually bought a compass to mark the circular grooves
Then it\'s just a lot of cutting, sanding and picking away at it

There is actually a horses head on the main circle
Not sure how it will look on the finished piece though
Also think some of the surface will need breaks to make it look like sections of stone

Well, made a little progress on the jester. Not much but got the base colours done and the main highlighting and shading for the body/shoulders/legs. Still quite a bit to do, I\'ll probably focus on the face next, be good to get that done before the hat and adjusting things.

Oh, colourful jesters are elsewhere :D

Oh, and in case anyone was wondering which \"sort\" of plaster
I found this link which is the same type I use
I\'m sure other people stock it
Must be fairly common, apparently you can get it in OZ as well

it\'s sometimes called stone cast as well as it gets used by dental technicians for teeth section of the cast when making the metal jackets for crowns.

i have some of that stuff, got it in hobbycraft (god i love that place!). its really nice stuff.

how did you carve the lines so smoothly? did you use a template or do you have a remarkably steady hand?

For the curved lines on the second Eowyn base I used a compas. You can generally get them with a 2nd metal nib so I marked the lines in with that. And for the straight lines I started those with a ruler.

Once you have the an initial groove, it\'s fairly easy to just use freehand and carefully follow it.

Well, done some work on face, as you can see the dark side / light side idea stayed. Actually used a touch of red for the pupils . . .

Did a little work on the hat hair and metallics as well. Need to do quite a bit more on the hat I think, a little on the hair maybe. And still haven\'t started the arms or feet.
