    Default Gettin\' Supplies

I\'m new to painting/sculpting/converting...I started back in October this year. I am looking for a reliable internet store that I can purchase round bases, perhaps some sand effects or gravel effects, perhaps even sculpting tools. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Which country are you in? I know of a couple of good UK based sites, but they may be no help to you whatsoever!

Oh yes, I suppose that would help. I\'m in the US, actually. Sorry about that.

    Default Hello, and welcome!

    I have used the warstore

several times, and have never been disappointed. He has all the stuff you mentioned, plus a ton more.

Good luck, and hopefully we will see some submissions from you soon.;)

I\'m actually not from the US but.. everyone praises Brookhurst Hobbies for a wide range of supplies. Michigan Toy Soldier also has minis and supplies, and GamesWorkshop has their round 40k bases, gravel and sand and those must-have supplies. That\'s about it.

    Good luck ! ;)

Most hobby shops carry woodland scenics supplies for making mini railroads but their scenery looks just as good with minis. They sell different types of sand, different colours of static grass and lots of other goodies. GW does sell sand and static grass, but for high prices and with little selection. I preffer oodland scneics. 1 can of sand costs about5 dollars more and maby has 10 times the ammount of sand, same with static grass.

    Default oh sure...

Yeah, I just assumed you meant on the internet....

Just like MaestroOfMayhen says check the local Railroading stores, as well as Michaels, Hobby Lobby, etc. etc. you can get most of that good stuff for a fraction of what GW will charge. Plus no shipping charges!!

I buy alot of the Woodland Scenics stuff (good products!) except the sand....that I just swipe from my neighbors sandbox!!

You would have to clean it or else the dirt would get loose and it would mix with paint and not stick and it will be really ugly. And sandboxes are really dirty (only 90% sand I hear).

    Default 90% dirt?

When I bought my house I had a 15\' X 15\' sandbox in the back. I would say the ratio was about 10% sand and 90% my Fri**in\' neighbors\' cats\' poop.

Still, I have been desperate for sand in the past so I am pretty sure most of my Chaos army has bases of questionable sanitary content.

Default mostly sand, just a little poop....

Well, it is a very large sandbox 20X15, and all the sand is very decent. I just scoop out what I need in an old coffee mug.

I like the texture of it, and like I said, it is FREE!!!

So far I haven\'t run into any cat poop, but they do have a dog, so maybe that\'s why...

Besides, a little chunk here and there is just \"local color\" it really adds character!!

For sand, my dad bought a huge bag of it, which has lasted me for ages. Actualy, it\'s almost run out now, after a project friend and I worked on. We needed to add the sand to this big urban gaming board, and basicly we would just spread glue on an area, and flood it with sand. once we finished, and the glue dried, we had no clue how the bugger we were going to get rid of all the sand without having to take a tedious amount of time. Luckily, during the summer it had been boiling hot, and my dad had also bought a huge powerful fan (it was so strong, even at low settin it blew books out of your hands). We set up the fan, turned it to full, and blasted the sand away in a massive wave. It was quite impressive.

Wow, I really didn\'t mean to write that much.
