And, here we go. Kicking off the new year with a project for myself. Maybe I'll actually finish it... or maybe it will end up in the graveyard of unfinished projects (I seem to have a lot of those). Details on the blog, of course.

    Until next time

Great work, Matt, I love the armor and inside of the cloak. I wonder what will be on the outside of the cloak.

Haven't thought too much about the outside of the cloak. I'm leaning towards red but that does seem to be over-used for capes. I've gotten a little bit more work done on him since this last post. I'm intending on finishing it, that's for sure It's just going to take me some time in between commissions.

Speaking of commissions, I just finished 20 Phoenix Guard, a mage from the Island of Blood set, and 20 old metal Dwarf Rangers. Big, detailed photos are on the blog.

NMM gold tutorial coming soon. Also coming soon: More Grey Knights, more High Elves, Dwarf Hammerers, and another Space Wolf Cainis.

    Until next time,

Updated the blog with this Dread Knight, along with some handy color recipes. As always, feel free to ask if you'd like to know any other color recipes.

The Dread Knight looks great! The red looks good and I really like the NMM trim around the gun barrel. Always good Matt

    Amazing work as usual!!!
I like the different colour scheme for the Dread Knight.

I also like the gold NMM on the Psylancer, and sword.
Do you feather or wet blend when you paint your NMM? I am thinking about trying NMM, but I am really nervous because I do not want to ruin my minis.
I was wondering if you could share the gold recipe and perhaps a couple of techniques with me/us?

    Thanks guys.

The gold recipe is a mix of Calthan Brown/Snakebite Leather, wash of Devlan Mud, followed by highlights of Snakebite Leather up to Skull White.

I use a feathering technique for the most part. This was painted for gaming rather than display quality, so I didn't need to make the blending super smooth. I would paint on one highlight layer, quickly rinse the brush, dry out most of the moisture (or lick it) and "scrub" the edge that is going to be blended. It seems to work pretty good and is very quick.

I also started this NMM tutorial. There's some info about my blending processes there. The first segment is done but I have not been able to finish the rest (I got really burnt out and quit painting for a while after that).
