Default Making Fun of Terrorists? (politics warning)

Just saw THIS interesting article on the Times website. Though I don\'t really want to start an argument, I\'m curious to see what you folks think about this social approach to failed terrorists.

My own opinion is that this is right on. Guys who are inspired by the greatest minds of the 7th century to blow themselves up are ridiculous. By promoting a derisive attitude towards their beliefs (not their actions, which need to be seriously addressed) I think we do our part to marginalize them from society.

Entirely right to mock idiots, no matter what form they take!

Appropriate amounts of derision won\'t help with the problem but it\'ll sure make us feel better and that\'s what humour\'s for.

Its a part of human psychological defense/coping mechanism to make a joke of what scares us.
Applying it towards terrorism/terrorists is just part of the \"survival\" mechanics of our species.

i agree wholeheartedly with article, to me the point of comedy is to lessen the blow of tradgedy, and in this case celebrate the lack of it.

I think one of the funniest comedy takes about terrorists has to be the ventrilaquist Jeff Dunham he has two puppets Walter the grumpy old man and Achmed the dead terrorist. Absolutely hilarious lmao if you haven\'t seen them then I recomend looking them up on Youtube :D

I think it makes a valid point, and not only that, it also allows us to give something that normally inspires fear the face of complete ineptitude. Thus disarming the entire rational behind what they\'re trying to do; that being spread terror. I certainly can\'t speak for everyone, but I know I\'ll never be terrified of someone who can\'t dig a hole without a it being explained in flowchart form.

On a side note, in a sketch on family guy the terrorist blows himself up, gets to heaven, and is introduced to his virgins.

The number one failure is awesome, with probably the best headline on a newspaper ever.

Most of it was kind of meh, but you\'re right, that number one was awesome.

here in Britain, one of our most succesful comedy shows is one called Mock the Week. one of the regular comedians on it is a scottsman called Frankie Boyle. For him the ideal of \"the invisible line\" is the \"non existent\" line. his routine on the glasgow airport attacks is hailarious, i cant find it on the web, but it includes the line \"I just love the naivety of Alqeada trying to bring religious war to Glasgow. We were there 400 hundred years before you guys. you haven\'t even got a football team\"

just as a little afterthought, heres the latest episode of mock the week. it is a topical program, so can be hard to understand for non-britains, but is still utterly fantastic

Yup Boyle is great, I think it was him who said we should use susan boyle as a deterrent against terrorism, so the young men know what a virgin is like.

In the space of about 30 seconds, this man was in a car accident, an explosion, lit aflame and then kicked in the balls with more force than a human foot can technically take
    what an awesome summary
