Thread: Elly's WIP

    Default Elly's WIP

I am starting a WIP thread to try and keep myself motivated, and also to get more involved with the community, as painting all by myself gets pretty lonely ><
Here are the current projects I am working on:

Sigvald - yes another Sigvald, but I love this model. I am considering trying a different armor color, perhaps an NMM red or something, or maybe going with the usual gold? I am also thinking of implementing some type of freehand etching or design on the shield but haven't figured out any good ideas yet.
The Fellowship - I love LotR, so painting the original box set will be tons of fun. I am also planning a hand painted display base for them.
Half the Space Hulk Termies - Pretty much Squad Gideon + Brother Deino. Tackling the reds will be fun, and its been over ten years since I painted a space marine! And Space Hulk is such a good game, even my wife likes to play it

So far only the filing has been completed, I have some sculpting to do this weekend (in particular, Boromir, who must have gotten an air grenade in the kidney) and some pinning, but I hope to start the painting early next week!

After a long few weeks of prepping, sanding, sculpting, I am finally able to start on some painting... Alrighty, I am starting for now with Aragorn, got the skin and face done so far this weekend, gonna try and get a few more of the inner layers done over the next couple days

I used a Tallarn Flesh base, then shaded with a mix of Tallarn, Scorched Brown and P3 Sanguine Base, then further with a mix of Tallarn, Sanguine, P3 Cygnar Blue Base and Black. After reinforcing the mid tones again, shaded up by adding Bleached Bone and P3 Midlund Flesh to Tallarn, then adding white for the final highlights. I painted the beard with the darkest being Scorched Brown and Black, then adding some Bleached Bone and P3 Bootstrap Leather. I used a mix of stippling and glazes for the beard... onto the tunic!

That face is very good. Can't wait to see the rest.

That face is so good it's confused me. This is the 30mm scale aragorn right!

Brilliant work, keep it up for the rest of the mini, and keep posting because I can't wait to see the outcome.

i agree with doyne and the others that face is stunning and hard to believe its 30mm scale

    Wow thats some great work.

Side note the way its standing on the pin vice made it look like it's dancing and I couldn't stop but smile

Thanks for the comments Here is a new pic with what I got done this weekend so far, I may try and get more done tonight.

The tunic I used a base of P3 Battlefield Brown and P3 Skorne Red. I tried to vary the browns a bit, so I made his belt plain Battlefield Brown base shaded up with Bootstrap Leather and Bleached Bone, and for the small sack attached to his belt, I started with Battlefield once again, but instead used Bestial Brown and Bleached Bone for the highlights. The NMM silver was a base mix of Codex Grey and Regal Blue, shaded down with Charadon Granite and up with just plain White.
Thanks for looking! Anything I can improve on or add would be great!

Again great work. Just underneath the small sack attached to the belt there is a small bit of chalky white on the picture. It might be that it is just reflections from the light you're taking the photo under. Also the tassels are the same colour as the tunic at the mo and maybe they could be a bit lighter?

It took me about 10 minutes of gawping at this picture to come up with any comments, however, I did try to leave some critical opinions because I like it when people do that for me. Having said that it might be best to ignore my comments- I certainly don't think I could reproduce what you've done so far. Really smooth and I love the subtle changes in brown you've got on the various apparel. I'm going to try this on some of my miniatures in future.

It might be just me... But is that a mold line on the bow? Can't really tell but it does seem to resemble one. As always though, you never cease to amaze.

Very great stuff!!! The only tiny little thing is, that the shadows of the ring are far to big. He is holding his hand outside "in the sun" so the shadow is far to dark and wide.

But the rest is really "great cinema" (like they say in german in english for runaways... *smile*)

    Greetings, Taggi
How do you know, that Taggi has been assimilated to borg: "Rezitanz fiutail ist."

Sorry for violating the english language.

Please rate my comments, even if there is critism in it, as a personal point of view. I do not have the absolute truth in minature painting and every word said by me is only a suggestion, that may be thought over or simple ignored. So, happy painting!

    And my own Dragons:

Mmmm good suggestions... Doyme, I'll consider lightening up those tassels to create a small amount more contrast between the tunic... also those are reflections of light since I didn't diffuse it, took the pic pretty quickly and my photos always aren't very good >< I'll tighten up those shadows Taggi, and yes Vern, that appears to be a mould line I didn't quite get rid of... arg I always miss a few here and there!! haha!
    Thanks guys!

I am resurrecting my thread! I kind of got a bit busy this past summer and couldn't keep up with posts, but this year I want to keep my thread going as I feel it will motivate me to keep painting this Fall. It's too easy for me to fall off track after GD and paint minimally for 6-8 months, but I want to avoid that this year.
Here are some of the projects I will be working on. Some involve some sculpting, which is why I need to keep up on this thread, as I am pretty horrible at it and need some advice!
A High Elf Dragon, Marneus Calgar + Honour Guard, and a conversted mainly sculpted Eldar Farseer. There's more projects but these are my three big ones for the Fall.
Thanks for reading and I will definitely be trying to keep up at least weekly!

Team Shorewood must assemble for a paint party. My scratchbuilt Hellblades need attention! My SIM card got trashed and it dumped my contacts the other day. Give me a call or shoot me your digits so we can get back in touch!
