Thread: Resurrection of a dragon

  1. #1

    Default Resurrection of a dragon

Finally I have started on a new and rather ambitious project. The resurrection of Kaladrax the dire drake!

Phase 1 - Legs and body put together and first of the super sculpy added to the bones and second leg.

I have no idea if this is going to work but it will be an interesting experiment...

Going to be aiming for a crocodile type look to the scales.

Looks fantastic so far! How did you do the scales? Texture stamp, or individually sculpted?

Thanks, I'm rather rusty. Haven't painted in a long time . I used a sculpting tool and a piece of metal fron a tomato puree tube cut into a small triangular point to press the scales into the sculpy.

First thing I saw was the picture with the unfleshed out leg and thought "Cool, a cyborg dragon!"

    Looking good!

Thanks. Not a cyborg dargon now. He's all scaled up and the paint is going on.

Thanks both. I have been working on the head today. Now I need to finish the assembly of him and work on the base.

    Default He Lives!!!!! :D

Hi folks! Finally finished Kaladrax reborn!!!!

I went for a very naturalistic colourscheme like that of a crocodile. To be honest he looks better IRL than in these piccies. I think I overworked it slightly and perhaps my paints are rather past it so I will have to invest in some new ones before I start on Cang! Overall I think my sculpt is much more successful than my last attempt (the Treasure Dragon). However, I have had a slight problem with the weight of the wings which means his right back leg is slightly cracked. Hoping that the arm resting on the base will prevent further shifting but that remains to be seen. :/. Also the left wing limb is significantly thicker than the right, in part I think due to the underlying bone structure and a few areas in the scuplting were not as well defined as they could have been. The base is made of supersculpy and decorated with various Woodland scenics products and a few bits of dried plant.
