Out of curiosity, any particular brand(s)?

    Einion[/QUOTE]

My standard 'goto' brand is Louisiana Hot Sauce, that goes well with just about anything. Much more flavor than Tabasco. But, if I want real heat, I add a drop of Dave's Insanity. That stuff really lives up to it's name.

    Got any suggestions?

I finally have one! I treated myself to a Chinese takeaway after work today for the first time in years and very nice it was too. Ended up as a bit of a trek mind, the first place was closed, the backup it turns out is now an abandoned building so I had to try an unknown. But all worked out well in the end. Accompanied with a bottle of Budvar I've had a pleasantly replete & mellow evening. Good stuff.

    Cheers all, B.

Will give that a shot if I see it. Not a huge fan of Tabasco either, apart from being too mild for me it's a bit too vinegary for general heating-up duty (fine for BBQ I guess).

Haven't tried that many things firsthand, but of the ones I got in the US I really like both the green and red versions of El Yucateco Salsa Picante which is habanero based. Tapatío Salsa Picante is pleasant too and Tamazula Mexican Hot Sauce is pretty nice.

Also have Valentina Salsa Picante and Cholula Hot Sauce in the cupboard but haven't broken the seals yet.

Not sure, can you get the Nando's sauces over there? Some of theirs have good flavours in addition to the heat.

Actually just got a bottle of Dave's Insanity a couple of weeks ago! Not as hot as I was expecting (had the chance to do lots of acclimating* recently) but it was inexpensive - about the cheapest I've seen it anywhere, thank you Asda - so I can't complain.

*We recently got some sources of habaneros or Scotch bonnets locally (go ethnic diversity!) which really help doing Southwestern/Mexican cooking with the right kick. And just grew some chillis from a random plant purchased in a nursery before the summer and they're gaspingly hot, far hotter than Insanity, so around 230,000-250,000 at a guess

we have some insanity at work!! pretty hot. but have just bought some dorset nagas:
Annually, since 2005, we have tested the heat level of Dorset Naga, taking samples from different sites, various seasons and states of maturity. The heat level has ranged from 661,451 SHU for green fruit in 2007, up to 1,032,310 SHU for ripe fruit harvested in 2009.
High as our results are, the BBC's “Gardeners’ World” television programme recorded a much higher heat level for Dorset Naga. As part of the 2006 programming, the BBC gardening team ran a trial looking at several chilli varieties, including Dorset Naga. Heat levels were tested by Warwick HRI and the Dorset Naga came in at 1,598,227 SHU, the hottest heat level ever recorded for a chilli.

Let me know how you get on with those - if you're lucky (or unlucky?!) the Nagas will be as much as five times hotter than Insanity.

One of the question you see in a lot of posts about 'em is perhaps the obvious thought, is it all heat or is there enough flavour to make it worth it? If they are so hot as to make food virtually inedible they're still usable though - use just a little for a heat topnote, with the bulk of the flavour being provided by a lot of something else; lots of chilli fans use their hottest peppers (or the extracts) in this way.

Adding head can go from mildly uncomfortable but great pleasure, to just plain 'eat this on a dare'.

I'm more into the mode of just adding some decent heat, but still have the food have taste. While I'm not opposed to giving some really hot stuff a try, I think the overwhelming stuff basically ruins what you're eating.

TV - Rarely watch it but dont mind Merlin, Deadliest Catch, The IT crowd.

Music - Iron Maiden, Coheed & Cambria, Rock/metal in general

Food - Whatever i'm fed. Coming up to the winter fishing season so I reckon fish will be a regular on the menu.

Drink - Ice cold Bottle of Corona or Sol with a lime wedge, Whisky and ginger

Reading - Half way through 'The First Heretic' from the heresy series...Some Terry Pratchett, Lord of the Rings etc

Random - Just signed up for the new Final Fantasy XIV but my PC is having a heart attack trying to run it so playing WOW until new machine arrives. Playing some guitar hero when not painting, tinkering with my car, painting. I am also dusting off my fishing kit and keeping a close eye on the weather so I can go sit in the cold night air hoping to catch fish.

TV - All the comedies, panel shows and geeky sci-fi, though that's mostly on DvDs.
Am feeling a little weird about succumbing to Gilmore Girls and Samantha Who recently. I'd previously enjoyed Sex in the City too. Lest my penis actually disappear am gonna have make it through the first Predator flick tonight. All that macho crap is way over the top, should do the trick. Though when Blaine says "ain't got time to bleed" I might have to holler at the TV, "it's a passive ability you @&%?wit, your lonely braincells don't need to focus on doing it!" Um, yeah.

Music - I'd say rock. Indie and rock. OK, alternative, though I dislike that tag. As if we have music, and this as an alternative to it. When really all that is the progression of the music of old and todays chart music is the peculiarity.

Food - Bread. Sad to say I never really developed a love affair or fascination with food. I'd rather astronaut food was cheap and available. Can't get excited about a biological need, though if I find I'm missing out on some exciting bum wiping technique I'd give it a go.

Drink - Tea. Lots of tea. Always keep a back up soft drink on the go for "aigh, the tea mug is empty" type of emergencies. Recently switched that from Cherry-Coke to a cordial after hearing sodas don't let the water content get used efficiently by the body. Ditching the caffiene is a bonus, as that plays merry hell with ones serotonin and my anxiety is bad enough without exaserbating it.

Reading - Not enough. Got more waiting to be read than is pleasing. A Robert Rankin, a Pratchett or two. Several Sharpe novels, the new Stephen Fry biography and a slew of Warhammer novels.

Video Games - Dawn of War: Soulstorm get revisited on PC. Star Wars Battlefront2 and GTA: San Andreas get return trips to the PS2.

Random - As a single bloke with the internet, there one obvious thing... Forum addiction.

Television shows... I am not really a TV person. But I watch How I met your Mother, Modern Family, and Ancients Behaving Badly.

Music Anyone who has friended me on Facebook knows I listen to an insanely eclectic selection of music. these day, I have been listening to stuff I listened to in my 20s; Old School Punk, Sonic Youth, Jawbox, John Lee Hooker, Husker Du,70's R&B...

Food-Salt. Yeah, I know it's strange. Whenever I stop drinking (there were a lot of birthday celebrations so I indulged with friends), I crave salt for the next couple of weeks. I don't know why.

Drink- The Southerner in me demands sweet tea!!!

Reading I am like Supervike. No not that I am obsessed with boobs too. But because of the science fiction binge I have been on. Mine pleasure has been the Horus heresy novels. I just got Nemesis, so I need to get started before the new one comes out. Also, in the last twelve months, I have read the Eisenhorn trilogy, Ravenor trilogy, Grey Knight trilogy. I threw in some Alex garland and Oscar Wilde to break it up a bit.

Random cigars, coffee, and spending more time with my wife.

Television shows: My Family, I seem to be stuck in some alternate universe where I'm trapped watching that show all the time, and thankfully always finding it funny =)

Music: I'm really enjoying, Tom Petty, Marc Cohen, Lacuna Coil, Death Cab For Cutie and The Birthday Massacre a lot these days.

Food: A great Curry or Mexican or Chinese or Arabic dish, DAMN IT, I like all good food.

Random: Meeting new people. I'm enjoying meeting new people far more than I used to, I seem to have crawled half way out of my own little world now haha.

Hi Yves, Breaking Bad's great, I'm eagerly awaiting series 2 on DVD Along with Mad Men 4 and Weeds 4 that is.

Just picked up the film ZombieLand last week. I'm not a big Z fan, haven't seen most of the classics & prefer Meet The Feebles to Braindead but this was great fun & a very sweet romance too Recommended if you spot it for a couple of quid in the supermarket.

    Cheers, B.

Thanks B, heard about it, but as I'm no real zombie movie fan I wasn't sure wether to pcik it up or not. Local store aross the street actually sells it for 5 bucks. And yeah, Breaking Bad is really an awesome show, astonishing what a good actor "Malcom's Dad" is.

Food: Peanut butter and onion sandwiches. Don't say yuck till you try it.

Drink: Coffee. Lots and lots of coffee. Maybe the occasional piss water beer.
