    Default Dark Eldar

so my buddy plays dark eldar and went down to the hobby shop to get a read through the new codex. we often together play games but after reading it i dont think there will be a point. i play tau and from my position the new DE codex is a bit OP. especially the special chars.
dont get me wrong they definatly needed the update and the new warriors rules about there rifles are good but some things are just crazy. as tau im finding it harder and harder to win against any of the new armys come to think of it.

I feel like this is how it always goes with GW, they pump out new editions with new rules to sell more books and models but individual codexes take so long to get produced some army is always going to be a few steps behind. Look at Fantasy, the disparity with may of those armies (most notably Tomb kings) is just ridiculous. With 8th edition came a whole new form of combat, which helped some, but destroyed others.
Working on my ogre army: Tyrant, 25 bulls/guts; 40 knoblars, 40 "Night Knoblins"; 2 yhetees, 1 gorger, and a scraplauncher left to paint!

Oh, and a Giant needing a 4 layer strip, and then proper paint.

WIP thread coming soon to spawn some motivation...

if the new army sucked would anyone buy it? no thats why every new army is gonna be one of the better ones in the game system. then when the shitty armys get redone it becomes one of the better ones (most of the time).

You what i have noticed. People who will not play an army or troop type usually miss all of the fun about the game. I remember during 2nd edition. The new assassins came out. Our gaming 'club' banned them . They were never used in a game. people just automatically saw them and decided it was too hard to beat, so they did away with them all together.

I usually play armies by the background material and the look of the models. During 2nd edition the Imperial Guard was the most powerful army. But I never played them because I didn't like the models or the background.

Well, the DE are actually (along with Blood Angels) the probably hardest army to beat (for Tau). Either you take down their transports and ways to travel fast (Jump-Packs, Jetbikes, etc) or you are doomed. DE and BA are both the most close-combat-oriented armies at the moment I can imagine, but since Tau have an insane fire-power, it will all come down to the first or at max 2nd turn. Either you got them shot down then already or you'll have hard times. The good thing is that DE-transports have only an armor of 10, that makes them easy to take down even with Pulse-Rifles. But yea, its a glass-hammer army that either fails big time or wins big time. The special chars also really... crazy. Just thinking of Lelith makes me shiver, but against Tau she alone will have 11 attacks and wipe out entire squads. Way over the top, but that is exactly their intention: Either die before reaching the enemy or the enemy is dead.

Yes, I know. I used to play up until 3rd edition. These armies have always been like that. Even the Dark Eldar transport's AV of 10. And I don't know many people who want to got hand to hand with Blood Angels. I won't get into the Death Company.

thats the problem though. because there are still armys that need to be updated more then tau like SoB and DH and necrons even. and i can play pretty even games against some new armys like spacewolves or imp guard but DE just usually win. only way i found to beat them is play there own game and outflank kroot swarms. and if i run battle suits those disintagrators rip em up in two turns. they seem to have a lot of heavy firepower for such a cc army

you're suprised, really? thats their whole marketing sheme. release an new set of models with better rules than all the others, and hype 'em at the GD (ive seen some very dubious GD wins where the winner happened to have the "flavor of the month"). every release works exactly like that. it was like that with tau, and all the various SMs ..... BUY GW
    CRAP!
pfbthhhbbbbbt. thats why i got out of GW games. i could never build an army that i liked that was playable ( i have a beautiful and laughable daemonhunters army that ill never use). ill stick to the much better balanced and much more enjoyable indie games, where engineering miniature sales in to the game mechanics isn't a priority.

You write as if every new Codex is unbeatable which is absolutely not the case. But yea, you can't expect to win with every build against anything else. Actually you can't expect winning anyway, its a game of 2 sides after all and it is impossible to grant a win to both sides. A list that is made of a personal favor doesn't need to be competitive (Q_Q, my most preferred list isn't either, but others strongly are) - lists made with one and the same Codex. Meta game is part of 40k and you gotta chose a good combo to stand a chance.

I personally haven't actually had eyes on the new codex (though read some rules on forums). My humble guess is that once we get used to fighting them, and learn all of their tricks then it will be beatable. Granted tougher to beat with an outdated codex, but still doable.
I play Eldar, and have no problems with BA or Tyranids(who got a bit nerfed in the recent codex imo). I look forward to playing against DE, my fallen kin must be slain!

yes... but they can only have 2 in total, so they should be easy for you to neutralise, especially as tau. Your basic fire warriors gun will wound all dark eldar on a 2+ dont forget.
My ranking will not be posted due to its lowness.

    Neither will my gallery.

    good day to you.

But look at the spaze marines when they were first out - way more powerful than anything. Then each codex put them more and more in check until spaze puppies and blood angels are 'better' than codex marines. GW is a **miniatures** company, they want to sell toy soldiers. It would suit them if they never had to write a set of rules at all.

I have heard this called power creep etc. The game would become stale if we didn't get a challenge once in a while. I have not looked at the new codex but I can tell you that my game club folllow the fotm (flavor of the month). They heard space wolves were op. Went out bought space wolves. Blood Angels op Converted black templars to blood angels. I am wondering if they will try to convert the blood angels to dark eldar with the new codex.

I will always play my orkses and chaos because the imperium of man must burn!

Okay when I got into playing WH40K and WHFB My first army was DE and hell I loved the background and yeah some of the models weren't that good but hey ho I got them and played with them and died alot. Seven years on and they get an upgrade at last....now everyone is saying they're over powered? hello? they still have crap AS so unless they come in hard and fast or fast and sneaky they will get murdered, as it should be. At the end of the day, its up to you what you buy and even more than that its upto the dice ^^
Even if you don't play them you still have to try and convert that raider into some orky goodness

its also one of the first armies to say in the back of the codex its not a beginner's army. If that makes them try and sell it to everyone that walks in sure they can try but not going to happen. Every army has really good things in the choices, cos that's what they are there for. If incubi were going to get feilded in units of 20 they won't be an elite choice.
At the end of the day its how much you enjoy the army and play it to the style you want to play it.

3+ armour save is good. Especially if facing imperial guard with the same strength and toughness value as the DE that have almost no power weapons whatsoever. When it comes to shooting, well, DE do have a few nice rules making it difficult to hit them but remember, there are still very few things as dangerous as a leman russ when it comes to shooting. And Most heavy weapons instakill almost every unit type the DE can throw. No matter what army they will face they need to stay out of range or be terribly slaughtered due to their weak AS, toughness and armour values. Tau has a lot of high strength-high AP weapons and with their rules making them hard to hit at long range you actually want them within rapid fire range, it's when they're far away that they become dangerous due to their speed.
