No I don't. I've seen enough of them. I just didn't know what an AT AT was off hand. I knew what it was on site.

    I have to reply to this because I HATE people trying to talk for me and RoyRogers is trying to talk for ALL women. I'll share what I posted on Wamp;

I think I'll put my 2 cents in.

As a woman who went through what this one is going to go through (in a one on one situation) it makes me cringe. It brings up memories I'd rather not look at. However, I've learned over the years that to cope with very painful things like this one HAS to face those memories. Life is HARD. It's PAINFUL. It's generally UNFAIR. But it's LIFE! You face the pain and move forward.

I actually like this scene. For me I feel pride when I see it. I feel proud that I withstood the pain of rape. The humilliation. I triumphed over it. And the rape in the scene has yet to happen. I see the chance of escape. Or the possibility of reason overpowering the animal drives shown. I see a woman who has a choice of allowing this to ruin her or using it as a way to grow.

I don't expect anyone who has not been through this to understand what I'm saying really. But I would have painted this scene myself if I had the talent and had thought about it. Probably as a way of working through the remnants of feeling about what happened. That's how I paint. To evoke emotion. Usually the happier stuff but I've done painful stuff too. I get that some people wouldn't like looking at this. That makes sense. And if it were a movie scene I'd probably not watch it. But as a static scene I have no issues with it."

Roy, if you're reading this, I think if this offends you so much you may need to look at yourself and your own hang ups. I understand your friend was raped but your reaction is out there even for that having happened. Chill out and don't look if you don't like it.

obviously not, you have a woman who paints toy soldiers and you need encouragement to show her star wars?!1 wtf is wrong with you?!!

Plus in the UK, furry animals receive more funds through charitable donation than human beings do. I wondered if a slaughtered family pet in my scene might arouse ire. Nothing so far of course But it is in my mind & one of the reasons the piece isn't in the Gallery yet.

There's a Heresy Miniatures Ghoul that I want to purchase that is an older woman holding up a dead baby. Pretty obvious how it could cause offence/upset & I am at least trying to keep that in mind despite still intending to paint it. It should be horrific & disturbing & if it isn't my brush skills will have to be considered inadequate. I shall still have to pop it into the Gallery on a weekend when I'm feeling strong though
do it!! i always assumed it was her child. as for the vamp kiddie thing, i am always more shocked by death of animals in films etc than people. i wonder why.. anyway it's a good dio.

Yeah Tim, you're right! Need to get my shit together! She said she'd be happy to watch it if I put it on though, so it's a start. Just not nuts about it. Makes me feel like a bit of a twat since I hate stargate atlantis so much and she's it on (or did have, finished it now) a lot. Patience of a saint for me, that woman!

I understand what Liz is saying, i've had friends that have gone through the same thing and I really can't imagine it being the same thing. It's sickening how common it is given most my mates are female actually, so i've a rather large hatred of the likes that would do it. The worst was when my other half (about 3 years back now) was raped by a two "friends". Now I know how I felt, and it's stuck since. A very murderous intent towards them really. It wasn't me that it happened to though, I can understand through reason that it could only be far worse for them. I also understand what a set of proverbial balls Liz has for throwing it out there. I'd always respected her but that respect is somewhat amplified now for standing ground and putting a clear point across from her perspective. More so for rising above it, and god knows that was hard enough for me in my sitrep.
The fact she can see past the pale and give an opinion on the piece and not the subject is a testament all in itself. It's an example you should all ideally look into with yourselves, for those of you that see it for subject alone. I understand fully how it can inflame such feelings, and to be fair the artist has hit his mark by doing so and hasn't overstepped the boundary. That's what gives it merit.
I have a cunning plan...So cunning you could pin a tail on it and call it a Weasel...

yeah, a few scenes further with the negative outcome would be too far, but the piece as is, is a very well done one.
And I have always loved Liz, now I actually respect her, which kind of sucks, 'cuz I just won't feel right teasin' her now....still...lots of love....

If you don't want to offend anyone nakatan, then don't build such graphically, disgusting pieces of crap, and then post them on the web, where everyone will be offended! You are totally contradicting yourself? WTF! It is unbelievably immoral to post such images,( actually, illegal to post images of actual rape pictures) let alone come up with it, sculpt it, and spend who knows how many hours to paint it! If you are such a great painter, paint something that is enjoyable to look at for everyone!
Like kittens! All art should involve kittens, truly the lowet common denominator. I think you have a lot of cats.

Liz I couldn't agree more. I've been through rape myself and it's tough, it's not fun, it's horrible memories that affect you no matter how much time goes by. That being said, I don't agree with the act of rape. I do think this diorama presents a horrible subject to the world to see, think about and it does bring a certain level of awareness. Everyone knows this kind of stuff happens in the world but do you really think about how it affects someone?

I've lost a family member to murder. Should I get up in arms about all of the minis out there portraying killing in some fashion? No, it's silly to do that. Instead, take it for what it is, a horrible act but it happens nonetheless. Better that we produce images of the horrible things in life and never forget the pain and suffering they cause than never produce images and over time forget the serious implications of such things.

Everyone hears news stories about someone getting shot and losing their life. Until I went through that personally I had no idea on what that REALLY meant for that family. I don't wish that experience on anyone. Nor do I want any images, talk, or stories of it being swept under the rug.

And again, as Liz has said, if anyone out there has problems with images like this one then don't look at it. No one is forcing you to. Just because you don't like it though doesn't give you the right to censor the world for everyone else.

Don't forget Stargate Universe! That series gets completely awesome in season two after a rather eventless first season. Now I can't wait for the third!

I don't post a lot here but i must say that it's an honor to have a person like you in two communities i follow.

I don't oppose the use of this subject in any way and would like to point my disappointment on seeing people giving this beautiful work bad ratings because of the subject.

I do think that maybe the subject could be treated in a way that represented the injustice, filthness and evil of the scene much better. The clean look, the lack of the piece that should be over her belly (even if it was taken of) and her face that i see tries to express defiance but may be misinterpreted creates a pornographic feel to the work. But it's just my opinion.

BTW, this is art, it's supposed to break barries. It's supposed to be controversial. It's supposed to reinvent itself.

If you DON'T keep teasing me I'll have to come over there and kick your marine a$$ with my new bionic knees!

I apreciate everything everyone has said but I have to put this in perspective. Everyone goes through real pain in thier lives. Stuff that affects me badly may not even phase someone else. While you applaude me for putting this out there I have to applaude all of you for going through your own pains quietly and with dignity.

You see me as a strong person but you should live with Donna for a while. THAT'S a strong woman.

12 pages of proof that this is art. Like it or loath it expressing oneself through art is one of the great freedoms we can enjoy. Like all art you see in it what you want to see, dont like the subject, turn off the monitor and never look at it again.
