    Default UFO's & Aliens You're Thought's

Had this conversation at work today. Do you believe there is other life in our Galaxy.Do you believe that they have been hear or do you believe that we are alone.Have you ever seen a UFO. I myself feel that there must be other life.I find thing's like the "Drake theory"aka "Drake equation" interesting not that I'm a scientist or anything talking about equations and stuff I probably would of spelled wrong if it wasn't for spell check. Always been into UFO's and stuff like that. But do I think they have been here. I don't know? Sorry just bored.

I think it's a fun topic to discuss.

I think there are alot of strange things our government does that may explain alot of the UFO sightings. There are enough completely credible folks that see things that make me wonder.

I do absolutely believe there is other life in the universe, and there has to be intelligent life out there someplace. It's just too unimaginably huge to think otherwise.

However, I don't think we've ever been 'visited'...although I'm not closing my mind to the thought.

I suspect that barring any crazy revelations about physics, the speed of light is a serious barrier to expedient interstellar travel. Ergo I think it's unlikely that aliens have visited us, and certainly not in the popularly depicted manner. As for the Drake Equation, it is useful for defining the variables invoilved in estimating how many ET civilizations might be out there trying to communicate. But the probabilities involved are frankly, guesswork. We have only the most basic hypotheses about how life originated on Earth, and zero knowledge of alternate chemistries that might result in life. And past that, how fast might another biosphere evolve? Is intelligence/consciousness even a likely development in any life?*

IMO, our most likely contact with ET's will be either a mathematically structured radio signal, or observing one of their mega-structures via telescopy.

    * for a freaky tale about first contact with an intelligent, but non-sentient alien species, read "Blindsight" by Peter Watts.

Alien life? I'd bet my life on it. (statistical probability, not personal observation)

Have we been visited? Probably not. I'm not a man of any kind of faith. Believing that we've already been visited but not having any evidence to back it up (there's circumstantial at best) requires an act of faith. I think human behavior, natural phenomenon, and idiocy are not only possible explanations for the current "evidence" but that they are more likely. Until I can prove it though, I can't completely exclude the possibility. Not that this is saying much. I use that same line of reasoning for the Invisible Pink Unicorn as well.

And no reason to apologize, it's not a bad line of questioning. Always interesting for a skeptic like me to revisit these questions.

There's a lot of things I've heard of that make me go 'hmmmmm??' Nothing I'd bet the farm on though. I am sure that, as the stuff that's publicly out in view is pretty amazing (stealth, and such), I think there are a whole lot of things 'yet to be released' things that we would drop our jaws at (in awe or fear) or simply disbelieve.

Do I think we have been visited by intelligent extra terrestial life aka little green/grey men in flying saucers. No. Are we being observed by those ET's from afar- maybe.

As you can see I am a believer of ET life, although I think it's more likely that we will find evidence of basic life long before we come across anything more advanced. We may even have life in our own galaxy. It has been suggested that on one of the moons of Jupiter - Callsita I think, the smooth icy one- that in the liquid oceans under the ice cover there is the possibility of microbial life. We have found life on our own planet in places that we have previously thought would be impossible for it to exist. So to dismiss it in what we consider inhospitable places on other planets/moons is probably not correct.

As to whether we will be able to travel to other solar systems I am open to suggestions. Standard drives today will take many, many years to reach even the nearest solar system, and I think we have already determined that there are no suitable habitable planets there. Travelling faster than light is theoretically possible. Einsteins equation works in the negative ie faster than the speed of light, it just doesn't allow for travel at the speed of light. So if we can somhow jump past that point we would be sorted. That kind of puts you into the realms of hyperspace travel. Highly unikely to be developed but with our understanding of quantum mechanics growing who knows what it will throw up?

Have I ever seen a UFO? On numerous occasions, I've seen a lot of flying objects that I haven't been able to identify, are any of them extra terrestrial? Well, I don't know, haven't been able to identify them.

It is highly probable that we are not alone out here, just that it is highly probable that earth isn't the centre of the universe, since no one has been able to accurately say how large the universe is, or at least how far out the limited amounts of planetary bodies are from us...

But I compare this a bit with religion so I'm going to say "no, until the fact has been proven", After all, is there really anything that says that if there do exist extra terrestrial beings that they didn't plant a seed of life on this planet and we actually ARE being monitored by some bearded guy in the sky?

I've watched the documentary and someone at work brought this up "Ancient aliens". Although interesting I think unlikely. We take to much away from our own race to think that ancient people couldn't build large ornate structures. My thought was I don't think that we are any smarter then they were. They were just focused on different things.I think that they were a hell of a lot more advanced then we think they were. Besides if some guy's with sword's and whip's were standing behind you, you're friend and said hey get that huge rock up on that hill or I'm gonna cut you and you're friends and family's head's off you're probably gonna get that huge rock up on the hill.Still open minded but evidence were is it. My Apostrophes FTW badge drew me inexorably to this thread... SciFry, thoughts is a simple plural, just like aliens... UFOs similarly doesn't require an apostrophe, you're just pluralising a TLA. And your, not you're (you're = you are).

Back to the subject of the thread, we hashed out most of the ground this is likely to cover fairly recently in So...............are 'they' out there?

Do I think there are other aliens planets out there - Hell Yes, it would be arrogant to think otherwise

Do I think we have been visited - yes. I do also believe that some may have never left.

UFO - A flying object that isn't identified......... OK. So my neighbor throws leftover dinner over the fence. It too will be flying through the air, and I haven't identified it................doesn't equate to a being/craft from some other world.

Their most definitely is other life out there. The universe is so huge and old that extreamy rare things like life happen all the time. One of Saturn's moons has a liquid ocean under it's icy surface, what would be suitable for life to grow alot like what we see in are own ocean. As for intelligent life, who are we to say we are even intelligent life we share 96 percent of the same dna with a chimp. With that 4 percent and are bigger brains we are far superior then a chimp. Imagine if we come across life that is as diffrent from us as we are to the chimp. Also why would they even want to make contact with us we could be much like a worm pocking its head out of the dirt.

anythings possible just boils down to the odds, which is more likely alien spacecraft near a top secret aircraft test facility or top secret aircraft? alien obduction or moonbeams looking for attention? crop circles, aliens coming fantastic distances to make pretty patterns in corn fields or hoaxers out in the wee hours with a plank of wood and some rope. i would like to think im level headed to make a decision based on what i know rather than what i would like to be, the plain fact is i/we dont know so i lay my money on the latter of my examples......the ones that are a bit hard to explain are the ones where the ufo fly into and out of the oceans often at high speed dont know for sure if we have anything cabable of surviving that, ask the russins they lost people trying to catch stuff like that, that is before supposedly just giving up....a great philosopher once said "the truth is out there"
im a great believer in proffessor hawkings suggestion that we really should be trying to keep a low profile as history on this planet is a good indicator of what happens when technologically superior races meet primitive ones, so lets all keep quiet and work on the ray guns n phaser beams.
