Thread: Any suggestions on miniatures one must collect?

Default Any suggestions on miniatures one must collect?

I am really into the Rackham/Confrontation miniature line. I pretty much loved all of their products, and it really sadden me the day they closed business (even if I got a heck-load of miniatures for a bargain).

Anyway, with them gone, does anyone know of any other manufactures that would be up to par with their standard of details and dynamic poses, etc.? I am really looking for a company of which one can collect most of their miniatures and feel that most of them are awesome. Anyone got any suggestions? I've gone through the CMON shop (and the companies listed there), and a couple are really interesting which I will definately buy. But are there any gems out there (dont have to be a huge production, a smaller one would be just as fine) one can recommend?

Of course I love plenty of the GW ones (who dont?), so they dont need to be mentioned!

I'm really fond of Infinity and Malifaux.

There are a lot of product lines that have good individual minis (Reaper's 3 lines, Privateer Press's 3 lines). Other than that, just hunting around for minis you like.

There are many great ones here on CMoN's shop. I'm a big fan of Kingdom Death right now and still upset I didn't find out about the Wet Nurse until after it had sold out (it's nsfw so check it out at home). They make some really weird and creepy minis. Also a lot of the CMoN exclusive minis are amazing.

It's fun to hunt around, but those are where I would recommend starting. : )

Yeh, I am bummed out about the Kingom Death being out of stock. I want most of those in my collection! Altough I wouldn't say that the Wet Nurse is one of my favourites, a bit too disturbing.

Also, I have checked out the Infinity and Wyrd/Malifaux ones, too. They, too, got several I have on my "must-get" list! Others I have set my eyes on are several from the Kabuki line (yes, I too am sold on some of the more "daring" ones), as well as several from the Smart Max line. My only problem with the latter two is that they are so "few". I got a thing for collecting many from the same line using the same "theme", that's why I loved Rackham so much! But Infinity and Wyrd got the potential of plenty of good collectable miniatures reaching my, quite picky, standard.

Are there any other quality stores around except for those listed in the CMON shop? I can browse those in the list for hours, making my list ever bigger, but I don't want to ignore those (maybe) more unknown gems, who need a bigger audiance to actually survive on the market!

You know, I'd really suggest going over to Reaper's site and looking at their lines. The Masters Series are some of my favorites.

Feel free to check out some of the other's like Chronoscape.

You should totally get Reaper, Rackham, Infinity and Malifaux! Those are all awesome. I really like the Reaper because they are easy to paint. I have also had really good luck with the limited edition ones from CMON.

There are a few really classy figures being missed off the line here:
    Guild of Harmony
    Red Box Games
    Avatars of War
    Tales of War
And look around at the likes of Artizan miniatures and Copplestone Castings, they have some nice figures in there Thrilling Tales ranges.
But an unsung hero around the patch is Westwind Productions Samurai range, especially the Fijuwara Samurai priest.
    A very nice mini indeed.

A couple of "boutique" bits I'd suggest would be work by Poupe Canope, the Imbrian Arts stuff and I'd also take a squizz at the Berderken range.

All stuff I hope to pick up at some point

Woo! Yeah! Those goblins (imbrianarts) are really nice! Especially the big troll druid on the photo as well as the orc swallowing the gnome! This is quite the "gem" I didn't know of before! I will definately keep my eyes on them. Thanks!

Avatars of War for sure and Smartmax do awesome kits. Kingdom Death once they restock and Allan Carrasco's stuff for Kraken (King Maulg and the Centaur being two personal faves)

Check these out.. there are the Banelegions and Banebeasts. Some are really, really nice and others miss the spot a bit but if you just want to pick and choose some figures then have a look at what the have on offer.

I'm way out of ball park here as my fav mini's are from Cobblestone castings and Bob Murch's Pulp range. Hope to upload some of my minis soon if I can work out how to get the camera to take snaps of 28mm objects. Best of luck in your search.

I've dozens of packages of Bob Murch's mini's waiting for me to paint. Great stuff!

There's also the Discworld series of miniatures from MicroArts.

Ultraforge has a very nice dragon and giant, as well as a handful of demons. However I haven't seen them produce anything new for quite awhile.

The critters line from Darksword is amazing if you want a bit of whimsey in your minis. If you'r A Game of Thrones fan they also produce a line of minis inspired by the books. They also do miniature lines inspired by the artwork of some very wellknown fantasy artists.
