I was bored and in the library so I made a pic:

Parts in blue are too dark or too stark, parts circled in green need more highlighting imo. Hope that helps.
Brilliant use of the image there matey. Thanks for that....am going to rework parts tonight and see how I get on - as mentioned, highlights not finished yet until I can balance out the shading. I'm trying a new blending technique so this is all new to me - all help muchly appreciated!!

So I've tried to follow the recommendations from Noddwyr and have been tinkering with the shadows and highlights. I reckon I'm almost there and don't want to play about too much more.

Looks much better to me mate. If I was being picky I would say just a little more highlight on the shoulder bits, but I really like it. Nice Work!

Whoa. I didn't get to decide on the red thing. That's not right.

lol! Well done and great suggestion Nodd. The only thing I was going to offer was the top of the shoulders need more highlight but other than that you've got it nailed.

Lol, sorry Chad.....I'll send you a pm next time ;-). More importantly do you think I am on the right track? Going to push the shoulders a tad brighter. Base coated the hair and beard shadow grey last night too.

Agree - maybe one last round of highlights on the shoulders and select high points on the arms to create super contrast. I'll come back to these after painting the hair/beard :-)

I highlighted the shoulders a bit more and got some images with the hair and face basecoated. Not had much success with skin tones before so will be hoping this comes out nicer than my previous mini's where my paints have been a bit thick. Lets see! Beard will come up to a blueish grey white. I went with Shadow grey as I thought the blueish tint would work really nicely with the red as I have used blue in the shadow. Trying to link my colour palette.

Going to continue to work on the hair as I think it could do with something else in the shading to tie in with rest of mini and am going to build more highlights in to brighten the whole area.

Mini pole....speak up guys. For the blade......
    a) NMM blueish silver with a little bit of reddish rust in there

    or

    b) Turquise magical blade with purpling shades?

For me I am veering towards (a).

On a side note - went to watch the inbetweeners tonight......lmfao....I did! Quite scary the amount of similar incidents I think most teenagers can identify with.........reminded me of my first lads holiday to Greece. Happy Days ;-)

I think youre right with the choice of a) for the blade, option b) might detract attention from the rest of the mini, this is really shaping up nicely, I love the way I can keep watching everyone's progress then totter off and practice!
    keep up the good work
On a scale of 1 to 10 just how funny is the film compared to the series??? I wanna go see but will probably feel out of place as an OAP in our local picture house emporium

I'd give it 7.5 against the tv series. On the age front there was a very broad mix. Late teens up to a very healthy quota of middle aged folk. You'll not need to worry about that.....you can laugh at a turd no matter how old you are ;-)

Look into my eyes........name that Arnold film!

Painted the face, tried to paint in my shades rather than using a wash and I have glazed the nose and lips with scab red for the first time. I'd be interested in thoughts... I've seen some super face work on here recently so have been inspired.

Sword is going to be NMM silver....which means the other metallic areas will have to follow suit...doh!

Great looking reds there Will! I would say for the face the "wrinkles" on his forehead look a little too dark imo. Kind of makes it look like scars. Maybe lighten them up a little and try to blend the line edges in with the rest of the skin. Just a thought!
Keep up the good work, looking forward to the NMM progress

Cheers Elly, Can you offer some advice on the wrinkles. Would you suggest I go back and hit them with a little tallern flesh with a tiny amount of scorched brown...this was my first stage highlight. Where would you normally stop with your skin tones. I notice you use tallern and p3 sanguine so would you stop after 1st stage highlight?

    Cheers

    Heya,

I've tried to lighten the wrinkles a little and have started work on the NMM blade. I think there is a bit of work to do as it doesn't quite look right re shadows etc. Do you guys think the general idea is right or off?

Well, it looks like you did what I always do - cover up the shading with the highlight. As soon as I figure out how NOT to do that, I'll let you know and if you figure it out, you let me know. Okay? lol!

The shadow on the blade does look off. I think because it looks like you have a light source on the right edge of the blade but you highlighted the left edge and the left side of the middle. Maybe tone down the highlights on the right side a little?
