This is either a very stupid PR guy, or a very clever stunt. I think the former.

I seem to recall two rules for running a succesful business:
    1. The customer is always right.
    2. If there is ever any doubt, refer to rule 1.

Apparently this has gone to the way side as I see more and more of the attitude of that "gentleman" from the controller company in more and more businesses across the country.

when I first read that I thought it was all made up, but investigating further has shown that it is real. Who would think someone could act like that.

Man, talking about shooting yourself in the foot (or sitting on your sword).
This guy just committed professional suicide.

I seriously hope he is a one-man operation, otherwise he just put a lot more people on unemployment.

Wow, that guy at Ocean sure is an ignoranus. I can't believe anyone would write like that unless they were going through some kind of major personal meltdown, but even that wouldn't excuse the behaviour.

Unrelated to the above: as we all know the customer is not always right and some modern corporate policy is beginning to reflect this reality.

Yeah. Rule one should have been amended to "The customer is always right, within reason." a long time ago. Unfortunately, more and more people, both customer service and customer, operate outside the boundaries of reason these days.

Always remember, the guy who coined the phrase "The customer is always right" went bankrupt, and died a poor man. Working in customer service, I can say part of the reason people get shytty service is because they some at it with a piss poor attitude. That said, the PR guy at Ocean is a total Tool.

I think it should be "The customer is right only when they're right", simple as that.

In all fairness though, unrelated to that maxim.

That guy has been released from his marketing contract with the controller's manufacturer. He really shouldn't have name-dropped all those companies who apparently weren't overly enamoured with him in the first place.

note to self ........... don't piss off the internet

Sometimes the Internet Goes Too FarPosted by Paul Constant at 10:33 AM in Teh Internets

Yesterday, the STD told you about what happened when Penny Arcade got involved with a douchebag PR person named Paul Christoforo. It was a great little story about a dick who gets his comeuppance, thanks to the internet.
The problem is, the internet does not have an off switch, and now it's getting out of hand:
After picking on an Avenger Controller customer named Dave and gaming giant Mike Krahulik yesterday, Christoforo quickly learned that there are some people who won’t tolerate his thuggish behavior. Even after hurriedly changing his Twitter handle from @OceanMarketting to the equally misspelled @OceanStratagy (and he may switch again), he is still being lambasted.
Now, users have discovered Christoforo's alleged steroid abuse and domestic violence charges and brought them out into the open. Avenger Controller’s replacement PR representative, Eli Schwartz, told Kotaku that Christoforo is “out of business."...[Penny Arcade honcho Mike] Krahulik, who said he’d been bullied as a child, felt no sympathy.
“I think there is a big difference between being sorry and being sorry you got caught,” he wrote. “I feel like Paul is a bully and maybe that’s why I have no sympathy here. Someday every bully meets and even bigger bully and maybe that’s me in this case.”
Look, I'm not defending Christoforo. He's obviously dumb, he seems to be enjoying becoming the Number One Troll on the Internet This Week, and if what the internet has uncovered is true, he's a terrible human being, through and through. But Jesus Christ, people. What is the original thing that happened, here? He sent some mean e-mails. I think he's been suitably punished for that. The best thing to do now is to ignore Christoforo, and let him live out the rest of his life in the prison of ignorance he's already constructed for himself. Not to get Very Special Episode on you here, but the proper way to respond to bullying is not to become more of a bully. The bullies win when that happens. It makes me morally itchy when people on the internet get all uppity about the fact that they were bullied in high school and use that fact as a club against bullies; Christoforo has had enough. Ignore him.
" So remember that, when they're beating your ass with a metal shovel while you're dressed as Little Bo Peep - it's not deviant...it's art.

Actually while the pundits and reporters are all crowing about how they got a piece of Paul, if he was some kind of demented genius he'll produce a psychiatric report and an endorsement from an autism foundation somewhere stating that he's a high functioning autistic who lacks the ability to understand human relationships / behavior beyond very superficial and obvious rules. This would immediately make everyone involved feel extremely bad for being bullies and possibly force quite a few checkbooks open for charity (as in, sure maybe PR wasn't the best job for him, but at least he was trying to engage with society rather than hiding at home). It would be the perfect PR stunt.

I don't know if an autism-spectrum person would necessarily think of that. I suspect he's just what kids these days call a "douche".

That said, from a brief look at the product he was supposedly promoting, it looks like rubbish. I'd expect it to be complete crap, masquerading as non-crap so as to get lots of pre-orders.

Got to agree with NSA - but have to add from the evidence out there he's a roid using douchebag.

A good read about this with follow-on info:

And even more follow-on info, which shows beyond a shadow of a doubt what an abhorrent person Christoforo is:

Wow........One wonders how someone can run an effective business. You never piss off anyone...ANYONE. Customer is always right, and treated well and with respect. You never disrespect anyone because you never know who you will piss off. Simple Business/People Relations 101 principles! Oh add to that, use correct spelling and grammar. The odd mistake is forgivable, but if you are running a business you need to be clear and concise with your language! The amount of stupidity shouldn't boggle the mind since it seems all too common anymore. However it still does!
