    Default Reflections, 2011!

Years do tend to fly by as I get older....

2011 was a pretty good year for the supervike household, here's my highlights:

    My oldest daughter graduated HS, and began her first year at College;
Took my first vacation outside of the US's borders. (The Caribbean)
Celebrated our 22nd year of consecutive marriage.
Took a new job. (same company, new position, 23 years there now)
    Lost a bunch of weight.
Painted almost 50 minis (that's a LOT for me)
Everyone has been relatively healthy (although my dad severely broke his arm TWICE, but is finally healing up pretty well)
    Bought a new truck.
Hit 16,000 posts here on my home away from home.

    How about yours?
    Here is my ranking:

Nice post supervike. When you say you painted 50 minis does that include doing a unit of of guys for let's say warhammer or is that 50 display miniatures unrelated to each other?

As for me I got engaged.
    More responsibilities at work.
Started doing commissions through and for a local game store.
Won a gold medal at a miniature show, actually I tied for first. In the 32mm category.
Took my dad to the hospital and cared for him the 6 weeks or so after that. Dog attack messed up his hands and foot. Sad story.
Slowly Rebuilding bonds with the rest of my family, Learning to forgive them. Really sad story from 5 or 6 years ago.
As for health, mentally is going very well, physically is holding steady due to a restricted diet, no wheat or dairy.
Had a garden tour through my yard with 300 people raising money for the garden conservancy. All the compliments were a great ego boost.
    Overall not a bad year

Celbrated four wonderful years of marriage.
    We had our first child.
    I finally quit WoW.
Was hired back by HTI due to the flooding in Thailand. Although I feel really bad for them I also really needed the job as we were about to lose our house.

Those are the only highlights I can think of over all its been a very difficult year. Here is to hoping next year will be better.

    Hmm...

Released my first drawing for a spacecraft. Nearly managed to release an actual part drawing this year.
Completed a fun little iPhone game app that I thought was nice. Not a lot of anybody else did.
Celebrated last year's wedding anniversary by going to Las Vegas this year. Death in the family last year cancelled that trip.
Youngest child started going to school all day (1st grade rather than half day kindergarten).
Built a greenhouse. Can't say I had a successful one, but I'm better prepared for next year.
    Got a physical.
Started in on redoing the bathroom downstairs. Textured the walls already, and stripping trim right now. We've had the pieces to do it for six months, so this was a big thing.

Think that's about all the highlights.

First year home. Started working on the mental issues related to 5 years in the combat zone. Broke my toe.

    Things I did last year:

moved house (into an actual house, as opposed to an apartment.)

helped my wife start her new job as a school teacher, which I like to think I helped with a bit, as it was me that pushed her to go back to uni and get that degree. ironically, she has just gone on maternity leave for two years as of last week still, the job's there for her to go back to, and the maternity benefits are aces.

came 3rd in a CMoN competition, which was the first time I've ever done something like that.

    Things I didnt do (thankfully)

didn't die in an earthquake (in all seriousness, this was a major event last year, and worth mentioning, I think)

didnt quit my job (despite frequently wanting to, but in my less stressed moments I recognise that it would do me no favours to quit right now)

2011 was a great year for me. Despite some heartbreaking moments like having to euthanize my dog of 15 yrs (that actually was end of 2010 but the wound was still fresh most of this last year) and almost losing my cat to illness, some incredible things have come about.

It was the first full year of my painting website which picked up several new customers for me and the introduction into Zendigity Productions (zendigity.com) by helping with the gazing tables. This is the first time I've ever considered myself an artist and not just a mini painter (my own mental hangup) and have the confidence to try all sorts of new ways to create.

I went on a cruise (first real vacation) and visited all types of places on a whim.

I got myself out of debt, bought a brand new car, and am letting my credit heal slowly instead of rushing the matter and getting back in trouble. I've found new confidence at my full time job and now have the freedom to come and go when I need, which means I can better schedule in painting time to make up for the lack of work at my job.

I've learned so much about computers, read all sorts of Osho, and seem to have a better handle on all aspects of life.

Although so much has happened over the last year, I feel that it was just the warmup for 2012. It's going to be a busy one....

It cheers me up to hear that lots of us had a good year. Personally, I'm glad to see 2011 gone and hope I've hit bottom.

    Looking forward to 2012:
Both my girls will earn their degrees.
Maybe they will both become financially independent?

Hopefully, the bank will finally sell my daughter the home she's had an offer on.
Other family health matters will clear up.

I was thinking it was uneventful but now that I come to think of it I suppose not!

Disposed of the old knackered shed and replaced with a small plastic one and new compost bin on top of a 12" slab of concrete me and a mate laid.
Solved half of the problem with the damp garage - need to do more digging in the better weather to solve it entirely.
Other half and I dug up and re-planted the border in the garden.
Started my GD entry though didn't get it finished in time so will complete for 2012.
Have learned a lot about airbrushing
Didn't get many miniatures painted - again
Got to 4 main LARP events for the first time in 6 years.
Girlfriend visited in August for a job interview and didn't leave so officially moved in (redundancy made us do this sooner than planned).
Installed a new bathroom which almost killed us both with the amount of work involved.
    Overspent on the new bathroom...
Got a new computer at work and a second screen which is making my life a whole lot easier.

Looking forward to 2012 and actually trying to be organised and plan what to do so it doesn't bankrupt me and I actually get a week away somewhere and perhaps some more ink later on.
