A little too much height I'm afraid.

I wasn't going to post this until I rectified the problem but then I thought, "Hey this is a good thing to demonstrate that even the Blackadder isn't infallible and has to go back to the drawing board now and again."

Seems I made the shanks too long by about an inch. measuring for the upper leg somehow the proportions just didn't look right so I remeasured and sure enough I managed to add an extra inch to the overall height.

So what's an inch you may say but to me it will change the look of the finished model from a hulking looming menace to a spindle shanked travesty ergo I shall be cutting the lower legs in half and removing the offending inch but not yet as I may have to do other things as well so might as well do all at once.

There will be no need for buttresses as in the DS model (A problem he acknowledged in his sparse construction text.) except for decorative purposes plus the leg is moveable.

Hoist upon my own petard as it were but in my defense I measured many more times than twice but due to the perspective of the image managed to be off anyway. My sketches didn't show it but the physical model did.

At least I didn't cut it too short

Italian? What ever gave you that idea?

Okay Ladies and Germs, this is what separates the Blackadder from relatively sane individuals. To borrow a phrase from another Charlton Heston movie, "The Agony and the Ecstasy"; The wine is sour, so throw it out!

I'm not happy with the look. The legs are too thin. So I'm bringing out my second biggest Xacto blade and rending judgment on inferior work.

This was an error of perception rather than measurement. Until I saw the leg in three dimensions everything seemed okay. A picture might be worth a thousand words but an actual object is worth at least as many pictures

The Blackadder is multifaceted and highly regarded amongst the ladies.

i hear ya mate, i hear ya. lol On a serious note tho have you tried to do paper/cardboard mock ups of tricky sections before committing to the plasticard? then you know the eye will fit the measurment and vice versa. By the by do you intend to wire any lights etc into this beast?

Hey, dont know if this will help as I dont know what youre using for reference but with you saying an object is worth a thousand pics etc and youre working on sizes, I have an old 40k epic scale warlord titan laying in a bits box that you could have if you want, its only 4" tall but its a well proportioned kit and Id happily send it your way. Its from when I was about 12/13 so is covered in horrible thick paint but all the details are visible and if not a quick dip in thinners and a wire brush would sort that lol. Also one of the shoulder weapons is missing but the 2 are identical so youd have one to check your measurments to.

Also, dont take this as crit because its not, im loving the work, but im not sure if youre working to build a one specific to the warhammer standard, or if youre building a custom one, stuff like that appear all over in the fluff anyway so wouldnt be to wayward except to incredibly pedantic 40k fans. Anyway when ive looked at the little model, the front "toe" is slightly longer than the other 3, and has 3 raised beams as all yours have, the rear and side toes are rougly the same shape as yours but have only 2 raised beams. Dont know if this helps, hope so, and if your the anal type i hope it hasnt caused too much upset haha.

Anyway if youd like model just pm me where to send it

I appreciate the offer but the cost of postage from the UK would be prohibitive plus I could only accept the loan of such a valuable model and have to return it. I have very large images of the epic Warlord in very good front and side view which I have enlarged to 28mm scale but since this model is so much more detailed I erred on the thin side for the initial knee joint disc which needed to be bulked up. That required the rest of the leg to be widened as well.

Ah fair enough. Though I have my special ways so it wouldnt have cost anything to get it to you, and I wouldnt have minded not getting it back, as I dont ever see myself stripping it and sculpting a new weapon so it will likely remain untouched. More than anything I just want to see this project go the whole length and a good quality warlord titan be built hehe But if you have a big pic of it anyway you can likely see scale well enough anyway, though if you ever change your mind the you know where to find me.

Anyway get back to work! Progress! haha

Can one of those be painted with Blood Angels colors?

    edit:
Well nothing like using Google before making questions like this!
For what I could understand, there 's nothing stopping me for having one as long as the other player accepts that I have one.
    Right?

I spent the entire weekend revamping the lower legs making them wider and a half inch shorter. I cut down the radius of the hip and decreased the front to back measurement of the upper legs and and sheathed the whole all the while remodeling the bath which somehow takes precedence?

You could make two other legs like that and use them to support your bath.

Well I did have to cut the upper legs down again another 4MM all around. I installed the skin (AGAIN) and am working on the detail.

I made a couple of jigs to facilitate the assembly first a cutting jig so the zipper-like trim is homogeneous and equally spaced.

And a small aligning jig so the truncated pieces are aligned with their opposite number.

DS has 9 sets up the back of the leg but I got ten with approximately the same spacing so either his are larger or his legs are shorter or he isn't as anal about the spacing.

I use Ambroid ProWeld when I can get it. I keep it in a Tamiya bottle because it's less prone to tipping and the fine tipped brush wastes a lot less solvent (Its really not a glue so much as a plastic melter.)

For really large surfaces I use Testors red or blue tubed styrene cement. I see little difference between the two other than the toxicity of the red but I've never ben afacked bi iet myslef.

Hmmm.......... I seem to have experienced a flurry of activity this weekend completing the basic upper leg structure and adding a bit of detail.

Time to take stock and see where I've gone wrong.

One step forward and two steps back seems to be my mantra.....................

    I do the same...
and I also use a cut in half brush so that I don't tip the bottle when moving my arms around the table...
that reduced a lot the times I spilled the bottle and got a lot of pieces glued to the table.

And the your/his legs are looking GOOD !!!

Love the detailing there, can't wait 'till you detail the shin parts. Going to look amazing.

Another structural question. Is the whole weight going to be put on the kneejoint axles there? I don't have a lot of experience with plasticard, but wouldn't you be safer to put metal spacers between the nuts and the plasticard to prevent wear and allow you to tighten it a little more so it doesn't collapse trough it's knees?
Again, I don't know how heavy the final thing's going to be and what you're planning, just wonderin'.

edit: I see the joint 'gear' resting on the top frame of the shin though, is that intentional? (to limit movement and spread some force down there) Or am I not seeing that right.
