Lol the third one is on the front page of one of my intro PPt to dark energy!
Any way real life is getting no easier at all and my painting has slowed to a snails pace. But finally managed to get a little bit done.

Cool mini. First, that red beard compliments the skin tone perfectly. Reminds me of some Afghan village elders I have seen. Just the perfect shade of orange red. Next, your gold is as always the best in the biz. I like how it looks on those coin-like pieces. And good use of almost white on his head gear. Also, skin looks great but when I zoom in really close the highlights look a bit chalky. What are you using there? Not Ivory, is it?
Ive been using VMC smoke for my gold lately. There's a small example of this on my WIP. It's essentially a blackish brown, which I subdue somewhat with a matt med. Do you feel this is an acceptable replacement for the black you use in your own formula? I think I've seen you use brown to shade your gold in the past. What was your strategy there? Tango mike (thanks much)
edit-On second look, the chalkiness isn't there.

To be honest BFK there is some chalkiness, I've been fighting the skin on this mini and every step has been a struggle. Anyway nearly finished got the base to do yet and a little bit of cleaning up. Not my best mini paint job but I need to get the painting done to deal with the stress of RL at the moment.

I have heard that you can fix chalkiness by doing a coat of gloss varnish followed by matte varnish but I haven't been able to get it to really work. Maybe someone else knows the trick? My Reaper mid green, Leaf Green, always breaks when I thin it. I find myself just using it for base coating and then shading with the light and dark greens. The Reaper Pine Green is a awesome dark green FWIW.
That beard is a tad bright to me. Not sure if you are finished there or what. Real life is more crazy than normal for me to right now, so my 'mini painting' is reduced to forum lurking. I have big hopes for the fall though!
Ok finished this one and I'm on to prepping the sigmar cleric!

Your speed is improving and with little to no loss in quality. I envy you.

If he is using VMC Ivory he won't get any chalkiness in any white based highlight, but he knows this![]()

Ok started on a bust something completely different from the cleric I've just done. It's a lovely one beastman bust Capricorn. Just got the skin roughed in and the eyes started.

, and proud of it.
All of them or a specific bit? By the way it's a bit shiny from the light and the shaded regions aren't so blue.

Randoms... nothing but the best lol, i really like the choices so far, amazing how little red impacts with the green...it's difficult to consider this guy as anything but a tad nasty, those horns are gonna be fun![]()

Sorry DR but I disagree. I really like the colour palette Andy. I think it really helps to illustrate the character's inhuman nature.
Oh cool a bust. You got any other large scale busts that you are ready to tackle?
Sure have Milosh he is next as I'm after the historical section in Euro![]()

Lovely work. I have been trying to get my hands on that one for a bit now. The Lady Inquisitor is a Capricorn and I've love to paint it up for her.

Oh man, I love that bust. Digging the contrast between the reddish-purple-brown in the hair and the cool grays in the skin, it looks natural but vivid. The detailed cheek/jaw highlighting on the left side of the face (his left, I guess) is really effective-he goes from almost cartoonish to Very Serious Business Bust.
