    Default My Lastest WIP

Hey guys, I don't post much on the forums here but I thought I'd post up some of my latest WIP pieces.
Right now I'm painting a Dark Son model for a local competition.

Still a lot to do but I'm pretty happy with the white/bone and weathering. I haven't used the new paints much until now or really painted in general for the last year or so!

    C&C appreciated!

So I spent hours painting tonight!

Base also got finished and primed. Tomorrow, I hope to get the Halberd done and base started!

    C&C appreciated!

Looks nice so far William. I especially like the face and battle damage you've worked on the cream. I think the wash you've used has pooled a little heavily in areas such as the back of his right leg greave. The green is IMO not as crisp at the beige and maybe needs a little love to help the whole mini pop a little more. Your scrapes and cracks are lovely. Can you write how you did them please as I want to do something similar on my ork.

Base is also looking good at the start and I am interested to see how you go there.

    Great start buddy and welcome!!

    cheers

Face is real good, green as Will says is blotchy and needs smoothing over. On the back of the power fist I see a dreaded seam line.
Nuke all mould lines from the air !!!!!
"we reach for the stars, forever looking to the heavens, our minds filled with wonder and the glory of the cosmic all; stretching the boundries of human knowledge and securing the solar system for the Human Species out there beyond the final frontier so one day our decendants will be as gods!
You hold our hands so we don't blunder into things........and do the photo shop.

Cheers mate! I need to work the green some more as right now it is my least favourite part of this mini!
The damage is real easy, I use the Citadel fine Detail brush with a bit of Chardone Granite on my pallete and paint lines and dots where I feel scrapes and scratches would occur or where they look good. Then I highlight them along the bottom of the damage with the armour colour+skull white and depending on the surface and look shade with a line of chaos black + the armour colour on top of the damage.
I'll do a step by step tomorrow for you!

So I didn't have enough time tonight to apply more paint on the terminator or build some templars, so I began laying paint onto the base.

Some times are done some still need more work and the dirt is coming along.

Haha glad to here it Meph! I'm a big fan of your work and have another project coming soon I think you'll like! :P

If I didn't have a meeting at 8am tomorrow I'd finish the base tonight, instead I'll finish it in the morning after the meeting before I actually go to work!

Base is now completed and he is down to touch ups and the force weapon.
    So enjoy!

    My freehand is very rusty.

Well I decided to pull an all nighter tonight because I got off work at 1am and had to be back at 6:30am. So I sat down and started cranking out the Dark Son Terminator for the painting contest this weekend. He is now 100% finished for the contest. Anything else I decide to do will be next week on him!

Let me know what you think!!
I'll take better photo's next week once I reset my light box.

    Hi William,

The base is nice and I like the colours. I think the bone has worked out well but the green is still holding this miniature back IMO.

I think you need to thin your paints down a little more and concentrate on smoothing your transitions. Your colour choices look OK and the depth of your highs and lows gives enough contrast. Where I think you could make some quick gains is to apply some edge highlights, on the carapace for example.

The face is my favourite part and provides a good deal of character to this mini. I also like the metallics you've done on the haft.

Contructively - my least favourite part is the freehand on the shoulder pad. I think the basic shapes are OK but the detail looks smudged so if you can, maybe try to tighten this up a bit. Its mainly the back lining that looks a bit heavy.

Hope this is OK critique sir.
    Cheers

Well you and I definitely are on the same page. I'm not happy with the green at all. The freehand only makes me happy from the front at a distance.

Hopefully the next project will go better.
We're doing a Blood Angel Dreadnought on a snowy bridge and some Templars for AoP.
So you better stick around Will to help me out with this! :P

Hi William! That base absolutely rocks! And I agree with Will on the green but the face looks really cool. Overall a nice job!

    Cheer guys!

I've been busy with work the last two days so all I've gotten done is some assembly work on the Templars.

I've been watching the miniature mentor videos and have found some inspiration to continue doing one off display pieces to try out techniques so we shall see what happens!

Good work William. Always nice to get some accolades when you put a lot of work into a mini. What to buy........always the big question! Something different to take you out your comfort zone!

    Cheers

So I found out next months contest today. It's flyers. I have that new dark eldar flyer already assembled so I think I'll just use that!
So I'll start cleaning it up before work and mocking up a base for it.
I'll be taking huge inspiration from Yellow One. I love his Eldar tanks but im not sure how to pull off anything like that!
Any of you guys have some tips?
